De Gea: A Defence

I am a big big fan of David De Gea, this guy is a world class goalkeeper who has saved United countless times in recent years. I actually think he doesn't get enough credit for all he's won in his career, Atleti included.

Anyway I firmly believe that the real reason behind his bad form is his mentality. Everyone can see that for the last 18 months, mistakes and complacency have set into his game. He needs a better mentality to cut them out, otherwise Ole will bin him off.

If you, in your line of work, regress into your comfort zone and become complacent then you need a big authoritative boss to absolutely rip into you. To tell you that you're going to lose your position, get demoted etc unless you buck up your ideas.

Talent isn't the issue with De Gea, it's just the fact that Mourinho let him live in his comfort zone for too long. Ole will soon drop him for a game or two and you'll see him come flying back into form.

His concentration levels seem gone. For years he could have a very quiet game and then pull off a top save in the dying seconds. He was always super sharp for an entire game.

But over the past two years more and more errors have creeped in and the second goal last night is a perfect example of it. Just after half time, having already made an error and he let's a tame shot in off his hands, any keeper at any level should be saving that.

He's a strong character though he took allot of flack when he first played and worked through that so he could get through this patch but it's going on a good while now.

Bringing Henderson back is a no brainer for me, he puts real competition into the squad and if DDG doesn't up his game Henderson should get his chance.

He was never really that type of Keeper though. AS DC77 said he was always at his best when he was busy. Often looked unbeatable. But giving up 4/5 good chances per game is not sustainable for a team looking to succeed and hence he's probably not the goal keeper we require.

Ole has called him the best in the world 😂

He's at the wheel, and on the evidence he needs to pull over and be breathalysed

So since project restart Ddg has all ready cost us 4 points and a Fa cup final. If he plays on Wednesday if will show that he must really have some dirt on Ole, There no footballing reason why he plays against West Ham.

There seems to be a trend with keepers, especially those that start playing first team football at a younger age (for a GK) of declining earlier. We've seen it with Joe Hart, Neuer, and Iker Casillas (some extent) where when they reach around 30s they start to decline.

Klopp defended Karius howlers after howlers. They're not going to take them apart in front of the press. It's why they're managing and you're wumming here.

DDG's issues all stem back to the 'pawn' scandal he was involved in, and the fire he came under in Spain as a result. The country's PM even waded into it.

Before then, he'd acquired an almost god-like status and seemed to feel invulnerable. I imagine it can be very difficult to feel confident when an entire nation has lost faith in you.

For a short while it seemed as if he felt quite comfortable at United, away from all the noise back home, but his mistakes playing for Spain and the overall situation were probably in the back of his mind, and eventually spilled over into his club game.

Some 'keepers do manage to regain their confidence after a bad spell, but this now is a pretty long slump. It's hard to know if he'll ever rediscover his top form, but the longer the slump lasts -and it's going on two years now- the less likely it gets.
