Ruthless (pt2)

Last week I wrote an article on whether the United board of directors would be ruthless with Ole if we fell at the final hurdle again this season and didn't secure CL football for next season. The consensus seemed to be that he'd still be in a job no matter what but that he'd start under a bit more pressure.

This week's ruthlessness question is regarding Ole himself. Do we think he has it in him to be ruthless in doing what's needed to get the squad up to a level to compete again?

I've been surprised at how little Ole has rotated since the restart but I'm maybe thinking that Ole himself is being ruthless here and only playing players he knows will be at the club next season and who are willing to fight for their place. If he's seeing players in training who may not quite be giving it 100%, in case they get injured and jeopardise a potential move, then maybe it's best not to play them.

I think he could well be ruthless in the transfer window and sell players on the higher wages who won't get much game time.

It seems we say it often recently but this is a massive week for Ole and the club and one which could shape his managerial career as well as the club's short term future. I'm still annoyed at our feeble display on Sunday but if we can get the job done this week we can look forward with optimism I believe to the Europa (with no real pressure) and to next season.

Ole showed on Sunday that he might lack a ruthless streak. The team he put out suggested fulfilling promises of game time to players. I will be watching closely tomorrow for what he does - De Gea should be dropped out of hand with no excuses made about knocks in training.

I don’t think he’ll be at the club long enough to do that. It’s gonna take a good few years. We’ll be a lot closer to it than when he came in, though.

So the club will be ruthless then...

Only if we don’t get top four again next year.

But I think it’s just going to take a long while to get to the level needed to compete with City and Liverpool in the coming years, even it we are good in the transfer market - especially given the age of some of our players.

I think Ole will stay, he's done a good job so far imo.
Next season he needs a solid top four and a run in the cups.
After that he needs to be challenging or he's toast.
Can we question the manager, absolutely.
The problem is most already have their positions. So the OLE in's Laud him on good runs.
And the Ole out's appear after every loss.
It's rarely a well thought out position either way.

Disagree, I think the majority of posters are fairly level headed when it comes to Ole on here. At the end of the day we all want him to succeed because that means United succeeds.

There’s only a small minority of extreme Ole outers and inners who can’t accept any compromise or have their agendas challenged.

Is it really an extreme view to be an Ole inner? By this I presume you mean a fan who hopes he isn't sacked and left to carry on with his job.

Surely you only sack a manger if the result sequence are that bad so there is no hope left.

We have just gone through a run of 19 games unbeaten. We are on the verge of CL qualification (who would have thought that 6 months ago) and still in the Ropey. Hardly a contender for the sack is he.

Lets face it, anybody who wants him replaced right now isn't much of a United fan.

He didn't mean simply Ole in or out, but those who can't take any critique of the manager. But you knew that already didn't you?

I haven't said Ole out, but have criticised certain things (as you do on a forum) and certain fans get easily upset.

It’s like I said N2, when someone is so fiercely entrenched in their views like that there’s no point talking about anything with them. I don’t know why they don’t talk on a forum with an echo chamber of his opinion.

oooh! a tag team...

I don't agree with everything Ole has done either. Sunday for example was a joke with that set up.. But the bigger picture of what he is changing at the club is more important and I am behind him in doing that.

I am arguing against the clowns who think he should be sacked simply because he isn't a Pochettino or Mourinho and is therefore by definition a sub standard and Championshipesque coach and manager.

Im also not a snowflake (such a crap Brexit term) and I am not one of those supporters who watches through rose tinted glasses either.
