Carvajal+Marcelo vs TAA+Robertson

Which is the better duo? The Madrid full backs have won 4 CL and 2 league titles. I will say Marcelo and TAA would be the greatest FB combo the game has ever seen. However Carvajal is possibly the best all round full back around. Robertson is a pretty solid player, he compliments TAA game on the other flank pretty well.
Marcelo and TAA have really changed the way full backs are looked at. It really is hard to believe TAA is only 21, and has already achieved so much not only on trophy front, but in terms of legacy. Ex players such as Gary Neville have said he’s one of the best full backs he’s ever seen. The last player I remember at this age that was said to be amongst the best ever was Messi, albeit that was for all time players and TAA is just for a specific position. But this does speak volumes when we’ve had Alves, Lahm, a prime Maicon and Marcelo within recent history.

TAA needs to do a lot more yet to be considered one of the legends, fack me he is only 21.

Sky the limit for taa, but he’s suspect defensively.

Marcelo is one of the players I’d have eaten my own arm to have at OT. Not so much now, but a few years ago. Taa could become the best, his vision is brilliant, no Marcelo in the guile department but if he can sort out his defensive woes. He’s the weak link in that pool defense.

He’s a better defender than Marcelo has ever been.

Beyond deluded.

Marcelo and Carvajal have done the business, and then done it again, and again.

Anyone can put a good run together. TAA and Robertson are just starting out. There's still a lot of football left for them to show us just how good they are again.

Marcelo hit 10 assists one season. His next best was 8 and that was 2 seasons before. Most seasons around the 6. Trent has done 13 for 2 seasons running and Robertson is like 1 or 2 behind. If they get 1 more season of those sorts of numbers then if say that's already more consistent.

at dubbed throwing around the deluded comments not realising it was a united fan!

The Trent defence comments are outdated. He'll obviously get caught out because of how we play and we set up for that. But he still does plenty of defending and does a good job.

Legend is the wrong word though. Not sure you can even be a legend officially while you're still playing. But he looks well on the way to getting there some day (part of a legendary team for us anyway)

Hardly deluded, Marcelo’s always been dodgy defensively, TAA has already surpassed him in that aspect.

TAA’s defensive weakness gets overstated. Is he world class defensively? No he’s not. Is he good defensively? Yes he is.

Then take into account the rest of his game and you’ve got an unbelievable full back. It’s like watching Beckham at times the way he can switch play, cross the ball and bang in a free kick.

He’s the best full back in the world right now. Robertson’s not that far behind. The Madrid duo were excellent for years and integral to a lot of Madrid’s success, but they haven’t been like that for a couple of years now. Particularly Marcelo.

Glad to see rivals giving that pair the credit they deserve. I know there's a tendency for people to think Liverpool fans won't accept anything other than every player is the best but I think with these 2 and VVD it's actually true. Trent is obscene. It's so rare to see someone his age looking so good in his position. Strikers come through young often but usually not so much in other positions.

Makes sick, to be honest. I’m just glad TAA’s English. Shame Robertson isn’t, we could do with a top left back as well.

You do see young attacking full backs break through young a lot, to be fair. Same with wingers. They’re usually the positions it’s most common for teenagers to break into first team at the top level. Strikers isn’t actually as common, and even the ones that do will often get played out wide - see Greenwood and Rashford.

But it’s rare to see a full back as good as TAA at any age, let alone 21. That’s incredibly impressive. Especially given Liverpool have partly built their team around his qualities.

Trent’s defensive ability will only get better as he gets older as well and gets some more experienced. He already has come on a long way in that department, go back a few seasons to old Trafford and Rashford rinsed him all game, that rarely happens if at all now.

But yeah, he’s basically Beckham from right back, and at his age. Crazy to think how good he could be around 27-30.

Will depend on how he takes care of his body/the toll that playing lots of games could have.

There’s talk of him playing in midfield as well. Though I think that’d be a waste. If he keeps on doing what he’s doing year on year we’re looking at one of the best full backs of all time. It’s not even hyperbole to say that right now. The way he’s interpreting the attacking full back role is almost unrivalled in terms of the peak level over a season.

The fact he had almost half of Scholes pl assist total I'm just 2 seasons as rb is down to his exceptional talent but also his manager utilising a system that optimises him.

His team mates fill the holes really effectively and together it's a potent weapon. I agree he does kinds rip up what a rb offers the team. He's so impressive it kinda under plays just how good robertson has been also.

He's a great young FB in a great team. But neither one is legendary, yet. As far as him, he will be so long as he stays healthy. As for the Liverpool team, the benchmark has been set and unlucky lads, it's a high one. Despite the big haul in a short space of time, it's got to be done/won several times (not necessarily all trophies) over several years. Before it's legendary by Anfield standards. Also today's footballing landscape isn't exactly legend friendly. Football fans are more fickle and "flavour of the moment," than ever now.

Few football fans these days are willing to hold loyalty to a player long enough for him to be seen as legendary. Sad fact is if TAA starts next season poorly, makes a few mistakes against the wrong teams. Then half the same fans calling him a legend now, will be saying he's a useless they should sell in Jan. Doesn't take much to trash a player's legacy before he's got one these days.
