De Gea

What we thinking next season? Couple of dodgy moments again today

posted on 27/7/20

Notice MOTD decided to leave him off the golden gloves table. Kept as many clean sheets (tied 3rd place) as Henderson, Allison, Patricio and Schmeichel. BBC decide to just mention the others.

Has he not today surpassed Peter Schmeichel's record of clean sheets? Think about the garbage he has had in front of him over the past few seasons.

He has made many errors which are of great concern, but today, in other games, a lot of poor goalkeeping that will get no mention.

He does need competition, but Henderson is not it. Henderson needs to stay out on-loan and I genuinely do not mind who he goes too.

Money for old rope.

United have a ‘big decision’ to make ahead of next season. Being a goalkeeper is easily the most unforgiving position on the pitch.

DDG is experiencing lapses in concentration & form, the ball is passing through him - yielding major confidence issues.

Think we've had 4 different GK coaches in the past 4 or so years. Wonder how much of an effect that has had?

We need a goalkeeper who will command his back four. Especially because AWB and Shaw in particular can be lazy with their positioning. No sure if Henderson fits that mould - haven’t seen him much - but would love Kasper Schmeichel.

Keep him , don’t you remember how bad it was in the years after schmikes.

He’s a bit out of form but still a quality keeper. Feels like our fans just need something shiny and new

There's definitely something amiss with Dave beyond being a bit out of form. Yet again yesterday he fumbled a bread and butter shot for any goal keeper to deal with and almost got injured in the process of nearly gifting vardy with a Leicester opening.

He looks like a disaster waiting to happen every time he has the ball feet and we look to play out from the back.

Whether he needs replacing just yet I'm not too sure but I'd drop him for the remainder of the Europa campaign and give him some time out to get his head together.

Dark Pheonix funny you say that as since SAF left we actually allowed nearly the least shots on target against us.

DeGea has been a great servant. Love the guy, but his mistakes are becoming too frequent.
Sure his stats over the course of the season will mostly look good, but if we are to seriously contend next season, question marks have to be raised, and thought about replacement has to happen.
If we are looking to just close the gap and just try repeat this year, albeit with say 10 more points on the board, then keep DeGea as no.1.
But what do UTD want to do?
If DeGea gets replaced, UTD would have made their statement of intent to the rest of the league methinks.
