positive and negatives

Positives
=======
Got UCL - which was what we all wanted.
Did it with the division's youngest squad - don't underestimate how great that is
Started season with "no attack" and ended up with an exciting, dynamic front 3.
Shaw has improved immeasurably - looks so solid at the back and has improved a lot going forward
Bruno - we have a midfielder who makes things happen
Fred - not a first teamer but had a good run and transitions the ball well.
AWB's tackling
Our confidence - we really needed this!
Ole - I really think he's shown that not a lightweight. He has the respect of the squad and the media.
Our performances against the top sides (mostly)

Negatives
========
De Gea - it's gone on too long. now a liability. Confidence is shot
CB's - didn't improve as I'd hoped with McGuire. I expect a good 2nd season from him.
James - maybe a bit harsh as he's so young but after such a good start, definitely went backwards.
AWB's attacking
Pogba - Still not really at the races
We blew the chance to win the FA cup
Our inability to break down stubborn defences of lesser teams (esp pre Bruno)

A really strong demanding goalkeeper who controls the defends, And our defenders would not be as bad as people make out. You can see they don’t trust the keeper and that makes them nervous on the ball. When does Ddg ever control the box, Even say from a corner.

Fair point. Hendo seem to be demaning quite a bit to his defenders imo. What your take on him?

I think people have been too harsh on James. He's a prospect for the future, he wasn't initially bought to be a starter as he's still quite raw.

I do think we need to improve on a few positions though.

De Gea really is make or break now, not sure what to do there. Also not convinced by the CB partnership.

A replacement for Matic is also quite important in my opinion. Whilst he's done well of late, he's still too slow on and off the ball and he will be exposed against the better sides.

Agree with pretty much all of that OP.
James needs to be played on the left or nowhere. Undecided about DDG, he's not old for a goalie, perhaps a run in the reserves may do him good.

I agree on James. He played far too much to being with when he should only have been a squad/rotation player to begin with. Having said that he does need to improve. He has provided a few dangerous balls into the box so hopefully he works on just getting the ball out of his feet and knocking it in.

On De Gea I think Ole's mini gamble in the last two games paid off. He was only beaten by a penalty and now Ole can play Romero in the Europa without 'dropping' De Gea. If he can get his head right and maybe learn to command his box a bit better (although we've said that for nine years!) then he can come back strong again. I don't think Henderson is the answer yet though. For this United side I'd rather a keeper came in who's in his mid-thirties and is a calming presence.

Agree with the DM. Maybe a more mobile version of Matic would mean that our CBs don't look as exposed as they do at times. A calm but authoritative keeper behind would help the CBs as well IMO. Find your voice DDG!

Agree with most of this, but all Fred transactions is United possession into a 50/50 tackle, whether that’s a loose pass or a loose first touch. Jp

The negatives in the OP other than DDG are scraping the barrel a bit really.

Maguire has improved the defence and he played in every league game (when is the last time we could say that about a United CB). The problem is Lindelof. He is really quite crap for a CB.

The big negative for me is that when we play our strongest XI we don’t have one player on the bench that can come on and turn a game. No not even Messi Lingard.

Lindelof was our best player yesterday, far from crap... this seasons panto villain

Lindelof isn't crap. He and Maguire just don't compliment each other.
