Anthony Taylor

Top referee. Mike Dean should stop referring Arsenal matches and Taylor should take over. He knows the game.
Also a good end to a terrible season. Let’s win the community shield towards the end of the month. We’re also the only team to win the FA cup in August

The referee clearly had a different opinion to you.

======
He has made a call in the heat of the action. Like many he takes the easier option.
VAR, as often is the case, does not want to overrule the on-field ref so doesn't.

The BBC reported at half time that the reason VAR didn't upgrade it to a red was not because of a covering defender, not because of distance, not because of control of the ball, but because it was "a genuine attempt to play the ball". This clearly wasn't the case, it was a grab of the shoulder. So the only conclusion you can make is VAR made an error.

How would the BBC know that, out of interest?

And DJ, with respect, this isn’t the first time we’ve had this discussion.

You and many others have a blind spot when it comes to understanding that two people can view the same incident differently but have valid opinions.

They are told directly from Stockley Park. Happens all the time, remember when Lo Celso avoided red against Chelsea and they admitted the mistake during the game?

In that case, I agree with you that he was wrong.

Bizarre that you didn’t say that earlier and instead try to argue a set of criteria that could easily be viewed differently.

If the referee felt that Rudiger’s position made a goal less probable then I’d have no issue with that. Wouldn’t necessarily agree, but would respect the opinion.

But I don’t see how there’s any case for Azpi trying to win the ball there.

Thought I had said it, but it may have been on another thread.

Taylor had an option here, Azpi handles Auba a few yards outside the box thus slowing him down, by which time Rudiger recovered. So on that account he either sends off Azpi and give a free kick, or give the penalty and show him a yellow since he was no longer the last player.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Last player is a looser definition. A flat line isn't a useful measure when the covering player isn't in front of the attacking player and the goal. Aubameyang still had a clear goalscoring opportunity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I don’t make the rules. VAR supposedly had look at it and decided to call it a penalty and a yellow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this the same VAR that couldn't intervene in the red card, (which is ridiculous) & wasn't consulted on the keeper handling thing...(also ridiculous) and could not be used to judge the Sheff Utd line tech thing

Bit of a white elephant this VAR....

Can you even say 'white elephant' now....
