Europa League

It is going to be a hectic 2020/21 season, and todays triumph adds at least 6 games.

The Europa League group stages start 22nd October, and there will be a game every week until 10th December - bar the international break week.

There is also the possibility of games being played Tuesday and Wednesday, so it may not be the Thursday night cup.

The knockouts are on normal schedule, so the congestion looks like it will be in the first 4 months of the season.

The Premier League is set to run from September 12th, a month late, and end May 23rd - the normal season end. 4 games will have to be made up due to the late start.

It puts a bit more pressure on us to get signings in and get them early.

At least we haven't got the 3 qualifying rounds that our lovely neighbours have.

Neat how winning the FA Cup means we don't have to play the qualifying rounds

So Chelsea will have CL qualifiers unless they somehow win it and Spurs will have Europa

There was talk of doing away with the League cup so that should help.

3 qualifying rounds?

Oh wait it's definitely Spurs who have qualifiers not Wolves? Am I right in thinking Wolves now have to win it to qualify or does 7th place get a spot?

"The Gunners' 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea ensured their place in the Europa League next season but it also means Tottenham - who finished sixth in the Premier League - will have to go into the second qualifying round of the competition. Spurs would have gone straight into the group stage if Chelsea had won.

But it's worse news for Wolves. A Chelsea win would have handed them a Europa League second qualifying round spot after finishing seventh in the Premier League but they may now miss out on European football completely because of Arsenal's triumph - unless they win this season's Europa League.

If Wolves were to win the Europa League, they would earn a Champions League group stage place for the 2020/21 season."

Chelsea don't have qualifiers, we have 4 teams straight in CL group stages nowadays.

Wolves miss out on Europe now, unless they win the Europa in which case they get CL group stage place as well.

Can't believe I forgot this in my defence this all seems to have gotten more confusing lately. Perhaps that's just because we never used to have to concern ourselves with CL qualification always guaranteed.

Spurs have a Europa game a week from the start of the season until December 10th (assuming they get to the groups).

Going to be tough for all teams in Europe but those extra 3 games will be a pain for them.

Will certainly be tough, especially when Kane leaves in a week or two...

How likely is the Tues/Wed instead of Thurs looking? No so concerned about the domestic season alongside it playing those days.
