Has it helped us without fans at the ground

Hate to seem like I am criticising our fanbase but I can’t help but think in recent years the fanbase has become too toxic and has created a really bad atmosphere during the games.

Let’s look at our post lockdown results:

Man City 3-0 Arsenal
Brighton 2-1 Arsenal
Southampton 0-2 Arsenal
Sheffield United 1-2 Arsenal
Arsenal 4-0 Norwich
Wolves 0-2 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Leicester
Spurs 2-1 Arsenal
Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool
Arsenal 2-0 Man City
Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 3-2 Watford
Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

Now you’ll notice we did better against the top sides than we normally mainly to do with perhaps the Arteta effect.

But what if it’s the fans not being there made things better?

In the final for example, when we went 1-0 down some fans may have got on the backs of some of players who were still feeling their way into the game.

Other games when we were struggling maybe the fans would have booed our team and rather than go on to win them like they did, they’d fall away due to the toxic atmosphere.

Now i know the players should be mentally stronger to take criticism or perhaps the fans Not being there didn’t really have an Effect. I do however think we as fans need to bring back some more positive atmosphere when we return to the stadiums. In games when we lose, rather than boo them we should be cheering them on hoping our cheers can push them to a win.

I think the club needs to back Arteta and do their bit to improve the squad and improve the position of the club. We as fans in return need to do our bit to get rid of this toxic atmosphere that has been about recently and get behind the team.

Do you guys think the fans not being in the grounds have helped the team? Do you agree the fans need to bring a more positive atmosphere when they return?

The playing out from the back is gonna be an issue. Fans are naturally gonna be anxious whenever we do it.

As much as I don't like them, the drinks breaks have probable helped us too.

A despicable creature who moved to the upper tier against Chelsea in 2013 because it was raining, if everyone did that imagine what the players would think OP, they’d probably think where has everyone gone?! You should seriously consider how your actions affect Arsenal results in future, before you start blaming honest Arsenal fans who don’t play musical bloody chairs!

I moved cause there was an empty seat next to my mate and I took the chance in the second half to sit with him.

Nice try though

Did we? Okay, we beat a Liverpool team who were on the beach and gifted us both goals. But the wins against City and Chelsea mirrored 2017 - we are a cup team.
We also lost to City in the league and Spurs and threw away a lead at Leicester.
We also lost a lead and the game at Brighton.

In conclusion I do not believe the lack of fans either helped nor hindered us.

Have to agree, your fans are awful.

No fans have helped players from all teams. How many throw ins or break up of play is happening? Stats point to more football being played due to more minutes of the ball being inbound

We’ve played 4 home games since lockdown. Beat Norwich and Watford at home as you would expect with or without fans. The fans would have been fully behind the team against Leicester (on the back of the Wolves result) and Liverpool simply for the fact it’s Liverpool. I don’t think it’s had any impact on us at all

Out of the list of team we played only Man City deserved the win.

The losses against Brighton and Spurs were down to poor shooting and tbh we deserved to win them games after dominating them.

Add the in farce draw against Leicester where we were robbed i'd say we have done well.

(Villa game - think we were in cup final mode for the last 2 games of the season)

OP may be on to something here. He's definitely correct about the toxicity within the fanbase. And there's no doubting that Arteta's progress so far will have been helped by not having it around the players as he's trying to build confidence in the team.

Though there are the Peers Morgans of this world, the toxic mob around AFC is largely DC like "Wenger Brat," led. Older fans are mad about things too. But being old enough to remember the time we weren't expected to win, we don't have the same sense of footballing entitlement. We're more patient and angry in a different way. It's the brat-like feeling of being "entitled to be the PL champs," that is driving the toxicity. They WAY the anger is expressed by some, as opposed to the anger itself held felt by all.

It's not so much that the fans as a whole, need to be more positive. But more that a large section of the fanbase needs to grow up and find less juvenile and moronic ways, to express their discontent. Whilst also learning to appreciate that they aren't and never were entitled to anything. The fans who came before them earned their PL champs but support them when they weren't footy's hottest team. They already got the gift of an invincible team just for being born at the right time. So now is actually the time for them to shut up, pay their supporting dues and EARN themselves the next PL winners they get.

Our home form has constantly been at the top of the league though, so not sure a "toxic atmosphere" has had a negative effect.
Away support has always been good, but away form has been awful for ages

So what you end up with ironically, is fans biyatching at your home games, despite the fact you win most of them. So you have an away form problem which ends up making even playing at home and winning, a negative experience for you.

Xhaka can put on a MOTM performance at the emirates. If this board is anything to go by, he'll still hear a stack fans yelling at him that he's crap and do one. Got to be demoralising, especially when you personally are not the root cause of the overall form problem and just doing as you're told by the manager.
