Hiroshima
Seeing footage of the explosion in Beirut reminded me

differnet number for different site, whats certain is that its thankfully not comparable to hiroshima

Also the topography of the two sites is different. The hillier area of Nagasaki apparently provided a certain amount of shielding from the initial shockwave.

What it is comparable to is what happened just outside Waco Texas half a dozen or so years ago. This one will have more casualties though.

My dad was in Hiroshima two years afterwards, involved in clean up operations. Don't remember many of his tales these days but remember him saying about the bodies outlines etched in the concrete where they incinerated.

Did he suffer any radiation related ailments as a result?

Nothing that would be directly connected but he did suffer from several illnesses in later life. Died of Cancer of the Esophagus in the end but impossible to know if any links.

It was something that was eerily surreal and shocking when seeing it on the media. Really tragic for those affected by this explosion.

Got to feel sorry for the girl on what was supposed to be the best day of her life. It's probably going to become an ongoing story. Best wishes to the couple for their future. Only possible comfort is that their friends and family were probably with them and not near the blast site.
