The mighty Terrors took three points at the home of the 'best of the rest' from last season on Saturday and what a fantastic win it was, particularly as our starting XI didn't contain three of our most potent threats from last season - Nicky Clark, Paul McMullan and of course Lawrence Shankland.

The game itself wasn't one for the purists, but it delighted me that we were so organised and contained Motherwell throughout. Reynolds scored the only goal after a good delivery by Bolton after Motherwell failed to clear a corner. They had a couple of chances but we probably had the best ones outside of the goal, particularly Powers smashing a shot onto the bar. But we looked solid and organised throughout and it was fantastic to see.

On the radio prior to the game, Robinson made what I thought was a telling comment - he said that it was always hard to guess what team Micky Mellon would put out as he likes to change his systems and personnel. That was the case on Saturday with the back three deployed against St Johnstone abandoned and Nicky Clark dropping to the bench after scoring. Pleasingly he also isn't scared to use kids - 17 year old centre back Neilson played last week for his debut, and this week Logan Chalmers was in for only his second start for the club, playing off Appere up front. He also seems to have pushed Jamie Robson along again and he's been excellent in the two games so far.

I also love the way Mellon talks about the club. He gets it. He talks enthusiastically about the history of the club, why youth is important to us and how he'll dip into the youth system because that's what United managers should do. I loved his comment after the game when asked about having a big test against Hibs this midweek - "I can assure you it’ll be a test for Hibs as well, we’re Dundee United and we’re here to test teams too". Absolutely love that.

So four points on the board and we're ticking along nicely on our return. Hopefully we can continue to grow and continue to add to the squad to strengthen. We've still to see Edwards come into the team and hopefully he'll be a strong addition to our defensive line.

Mon the Terrors

Would Neilson have handed Chalmers a start at Motherwell? Nope he would have "opened them up" with Clark.

When was the last time United have played with such intensity? Certainly doesn't come from the Largs manual.

Can't see fans being back anytime soon. However liking this with the "Transfer Window" being open longer. Not rushing in for the sake of signings.

When/If Covid-19 is consigned to history I'd like to see the reserves back at Tannadice because I believe we have a manager that will use the reserves as a way to benefit the football club. Went in the late 80's early 90's and it was a great way to see the youngsters playing against senior pros. None of this same age crap that was introduced later which nullified the development playing against the same age group. Defeated the purpose. Saw trialists that were absolutely outstanding as well.

I still think October for 30/50% capacity is realistic.

You think that crowds will increase for most of the clubs then.

Usually it's only a bloke with his dog in the main stand when you see Scottish football on TV

It would be fantastic if dogs were allowed in

You must sit near me

Although a boy that used to sit in the same row as me used to bring his Polish gf (now ex) who was absolutely sensational. Spent most of the game looking at her rather than the match.

There’s absolutely zero eye candy anywhere near where I sit at Tannadice, so I’m forced to actually watch what’s happening on the pitch.

All set up for tonight, looking forward to seeing Hibs - they looked good on the Sportscene highlights. I can see us sitting in to try to nullify the pace they have up front. Mon the Terrors.

Really like Nesbit. Had hoped we'd get him but not to be. Even if his stats are padded by penalties.
