While this is true, there are games where we have had our full backs pushing up and looking to provide width and crosses into the box. It’s not a staple of our play, but it’s an area they need to improve - nobody is expecting Robertson and TAA levels of brilliance in that area.

But there’s a bigger problem in that Shaw’s always injured, and Williams isn’t as good in the build up, and AWB looks like a baby giraffe playing to play football, so building up through the full backs is difficult for us.

It’d be useful to have a bit of an all-rounder (which I though Dalot might have been, but defensively he looks a little suspect) to play on the RHS too for Plan Bs and when Ole wants to go 3-4-1-2.

Reckon we might see Laird promoted to the senior team next season. Problem is he seems to be injury prone as well.

McTominay isn't as good as some of our fans make out to be. He works well with Fred and an Am in front of him like Bruno, but he's actually quite a limited player. Opposition tend to let him have the ball as he doesn't see anything other than what's in front of him. His awareness and positioning isn't great when we're on the front foot or the team that's mean to control the game. He is still young and can learn and improve though.

McTominay isn't as good as some of our fans make out to be. He works well with Fred and an Am in front of him like Bruno, but he's actually quite a limited player. he is young and tenecious, that is why fans like myself are still hopeful even if we recognise his deficencies

I can only see him as a destroyer imo and by definition it means he does not particularly have to excel in anything apart from being busy. Unlike dms destroyers do not have to be as positionally intelligent

I used to think destroyers have no place in a top team but watching casemiro and his evolution at madrid over the last 7 year has changed my mind

I think he can learn a lot from Matic. At the moment, teams don't see him as a danger and let him have the ball as he can't really do anything with it. When we're playing against the "better" sides, his destroying comes in handy though.

I don’t think Matic can teach him to improve his technique. That’ll always hold him back, he’s a very limited player.

Yeah it’s the one thing can’t really be learned that much. But lack of technique hasn’t held the likes of shaw back though, more important for a midfielder though

Shaw’s far more technically gifted than him.

Not sure I agree on that, other than he is maybe a little better, but he’s not much better than adequate, at least with the ball.
