Gegenpressing is literally the exact same thing as pressing. It's not new. It's just that Jurgen Klopp referred to it as that and suddenly it's seen as a new, radical concept. It's pressing the opponent with the intention of winning the ball back as soon as possible after losing it. The same as pressing.

It is though. If I ever take up coaching, I'll tell my players to hunt the ball in packs from the front and name it merrysupersteviepressing. Maybe that will catch on and I can claim I invented it. And if anybody tells me that's just pressing, I'll say "no, it isn't as my team want to win the ball back quickly, unlike all the other forms of pressing which look the exact same but are just ruses where teams don't actually want to win the ball back at all."

"Modern football" is the same as "football".

Nothing difficult about understanding the basic concept.

For a start there is a HUGE clue in the name of the game.

Foot controls ball by contact with ball. Ball is controlled by contact from the foot.

Provided the player understands the basic premises of the team sport then:

If what the brain intended to happen as a consequence of the foot contacting the ball happens = good.

If not = bad.

The rest will follow........
