2019/20 Season

If in December you had told me we would finish 3rd and have reached Semi Finals in all 3 cup competitions, I would have thought you were crazy.

The emergence of Mason Greenwood was my personal highlight of this year along with Martial finally being made the number 9 that he deserved and paying it back with some really good, consistent performances.

It's been an indifferent season, but one with promise and one that makes me look forward to next season. The board and owners now need to back Ole. Get him who he wants, within reason, post-Covid of course. It's clear what we are lacking. RW, CM, CB at minimum.

From being 14 points away from 3rd place Leicester in Dec/Jan to secure 3rd and a CL place, it's been a very good run. The long and weird season finally caught up to us these last 5 games, with so many games in such a short space of time.

This is not about "accepting mediocrity" but more about realising the progress we have made under Ole. I'm not saying he is the perfect manager for us, but there are improvements. Our 4th manager after Fergie might just be the one we need right now.

Realisitic target for next season for me would top 3 again and also win something. We need to instill that winning mentality back into the team. I could finally say I looked forward to watching my team again after 5-6 years.

Let's hope we can continue our progress next season. Greenwood will have a year's experience under his belt. Martial will continue to grow and get better in that number 9 position. Hopegully a short rest will reignite Rashford and Bruno.

3 weeks until the new season starts, make some signings and let's see what happens.

Overall it has been a good season. We finished third despite having no creativity in midfield for half of the campaign. We need a few quality signings to continue to improve, but I am at least enjoying watching us play now. I can't see us bridging the gap with Liverpool next season, but we could possibly finish above City.

The boys in the dressing room are devastated. People will say we had a good season because we finished third in the Premier League, but do we want to finish third next season? No we don’t.”- Maguire.

Be careful what you wish for.

Positive season despite the bitter end yesterday.
However, I'm worried about our transfer business so far. We know how long it takes for Ed to conclude any deal. Yet we seem to not working on any deal at the moment apart from Sancho. Hope it will be turnaround quickly in the next two weeks now we have no football left to play.

That's true

We should probably be hoping for third and some silverware, realistically.

So you think getting 3rd in the league and out of three SF comptetiotions is good achievement despite spending over 100m every season but you were calling Liverpool bottlers when finished 2nd with 97 points just one point behind City and runners up in the CL the year before (not semi of the less prestige EL).

I'm sure Man Utd and other fans would have called Liverpool bottlers if were knocked out from the SF of the three comptetiotions.

Having said that I kind of agree with your post now but don't with previous comments on Liverpool being bottlers. Not saying you've said that specifically, but majority of your fans. It wasn't easy to compete with super rich clubs like City and Chelsea. We have done it the right way. Took time and had to sell to fund for new players. You may be in the right way.

What a load of waffle. We have made reasonable strides forward from where we were before Ole joined. That doesn't write out the mismanagement we have witnessed for the last 7 years. Stop putting words in people's mouths and you might manage to have a reasoned debate.

The lack of ambition of some of our fans is baffling.

There is a difference between lacking ambition and being realistic. A squad that has been mismanaged for 7 years is going to take some rebuilding. Especially when it is made up of players from 4 different managers.

7/10 for me which is good. There are still quite a few issues and I’m still not convinced with Ole but he’s doing a good job and deserves to stay with the backing of the board.

Yesterday was disappointing but we’ve still got CL football which was always the priority and the football at times has been good with some impressive performances against better sides.

The main problem as has always been for the past 7 years is Ed and the Glazers.
