Let Downs

Was thinking about players Liverpool have signed who I've been super excited about who didn't in fact work out.

Kewell - was outstanding for Leeds, quick, skillful, great left foot. Never really did it at Liverpool and kept getting injured.

Joe Cole - it was desperate times at the club then and he gave a glimmer of hope that we could progress. He was awful, slow, injured a lot.

Morientes - nothing needed said about the pedigree he arrived with, scored some goals but generally didn't do a lot.

Robbie Keane - perhaps for different reasons as I actually thought he did well when he played but seemed to be a signing forced on Benitez at the time and Benitez being stubborn never really gave him the chance and was shipped back after six months. I believe we'd have won the league that season if we kept him(or Crouch for that matter who moved for games) as Torres was injured much of the season and we ended up playing with Ngog which allowed United to pull ahead of us. They were able to salvage games they didn't play well in, with the fire power they had, whilst we had Ngog.

To a lesser extent Ryan Babel as he didn't arrive with a great standing but with huge potential. I think he would have faired better for say an Arsenal at the time who were more free flowing. Our game was too structured and tactical to suit him. Although of course he has to take much of the blame as he didn't seem to work hard enough to improve.

Who's yours for your club?

Rush scored 30 league goals in 42 games when back on loan then 90 in 245 after that, which considering much of those 245 he was past his prime, that's some going.

The loan season was great, I was talking about when we brought him back in 88. He was still pretty much in his prime then (27) but never hit the heights of pre-Juve.

To give some context I was 10 when he signed for Juve and I cried when my dad told me we'd sold him Perhaps a touch naively I expected him to be the player he was 2 seasons ago but it never seemed quite the same, even when he was scoring. At the time (keep in mind I was 12!) I thought Beardsley and Rush would be just as good as KK and Rush.

Beardsley was just before my time but thought he was very good for Newcastle when again probably past his prime. Of course I saw the old clips of him playing for Liverpool and thought he was excellent. Also I only got to see the central midfield Barnes. Must have been some exciting team with Barnes, Beardsley and Rush in it.

It was. Think I was probably seeing 15-20 games a season at that point, certainly not all but a fair few. Tbh though, I don't think I appreciated at the time what an exciting team it was. Not for footballing reasons anyway. I was excited by it because my Dad was excited by the team and the crowd was excited. Not sure I was old enough to properly appreciate the football being played.

That was expected. Great player but made of glass. Where we heard that before?

Harsh. He had one bad injury with us and 2 of his other 3 seasons since he joined he has played in over 30 prem games in each season.

It is a bit harsh. He hasn’t lived up to his hype but not many do. He’s been a decent squad player
