Chilwell deal finally completed

This is only a good deal for Leicester is we replace him adequately.

If we bring someone in who can defend adequately and deliver a final ball we will quickly forget Chilwell. If not then I’m not sure we’re adequately covered.

We can be grateful that it’s not Vardy, Maddison, N’didi, Ricardo, Evans or Soyuncu that have left, but I still think we’ll miss Chilwell without a suitable alternative.

Steady player on the ball...not great defensively and plays with an imaginary wall in the final 3rd...stop, turn around, pass back to Soyuncu. I wish him well, but should be relatively easily replaced.

Joby's right though, that relative easiness needs to be coupled with relative speed. I can't really believe that going into the new season with Luke Thomas as our first choice left back is a good state of affairs, whatever his future potential.

It sounded like we already had a replacement for Chilwell lined up. Let’s hope that comes to the fore quickly.

If we reinvest the money on a Chilwell upgrade, and another good addition it will have been good business.

If we sign a left back for £30m who turns out to be back up for Thomas by Christmas we’ll have got it badly wrong!

Personally, I wish him well. I think he's a great young player who can still improve. He's been a credit to Leicester and has done us proud. Always done pretty well for England too.

He will be Chelsea's gain and our loss. No need to be bitter because he has moved onto a bigger club with CL games to look forward to.

Stop being rounded and balanced FFS.

I think we should burn effigies of him in protest of him moving to a club with CL football that will pay him shed loads more!

Chilwell is a good player but not a great one. He hasn't progressed over the past 12 months and probably went backwards during the second half of last season. I wish him well at Chelsea but his positional mistakes and lack of a final ball will be highlighted far more vigorously at a 'big club' (just as Maguire's mistakes have been at Man Utd).

I certainly don't think Chilwell is irreplaceable - quite the opposite, I think there are plenty of left backs that are as good or better that we could sign.

Of course, the 'could sign' here is doing quite a bit of heavy lifting...another day with no signing and no signs of progress. No worries Brendan and Congerton, you've still got just over a fortnight before the season starts, you just take your time...

Not sure what your motivation is for returning to this thread and saying that, but I think much of this still stands.

Chillwell was a very frustrating player for us despite being one of potential. I'm not sure a handful of games for Chelsea can prove or disprove any of the theories about his lack of quality in some areas, but time will tell.

This one could go either way. He might prove to be a good buy for Chelsea, but even that wouldn't conclusively prove he could have been a great player for us. It might just be a case of right time/right club.

Not that anybody will ever return to this thread and read this comment, but I wonder whether Chilwell's form has persuaded "WinterBlue" to become "Mr. Unsubscribe" ?
