Let’s be real. Real life football isn’t fifa or football manager and we shouldn’t act like 12 year olds wanting any big name because they play for Barca or Real Madrid. It would be a really really dumb signing. As illogical as Man Utd signing Schweinsteiger all those years ago.
Reasons? Well here’s a few:
1. Wages. He is reportedly on €256,808 a week. While his wage demands won’t be as high, we still would likely be paying £100k+ a week. Stupid money to spend in a post pandemic economic depression in which the cash can be reinvested more wisely.
2. We don’t need him. Behind wingers our depth is strongest in the “8" role (traditional CM) - with Lo Celso, Winks, Ndombele, Sissoko, Fernandes and even Dele Alli being able to play that role. He definitely doesn’t get ahead of Lo Celso and we likely won’t play a 433, meaning he won’t start.
3. He isn’t that good. He’s had a really bad season, Barca are really easy to play through and quite a spineless team currently and he epitomises that. If you compare his defensive stats to Winks, Sissoko and Ndombele last season they all out perform him in (per game) tackles and interceptions. They all average 0.6 key passes per game as well so it’s not like he provides much more offensively.
4. He is old as hell and only getting worse. He was a good player he is now 32 and on a steep downward trajectory.
There are plenty of signings out there that make a lot of sense, an old, not very good anymore, player in a position we don’t need to strengthen is not a good signing.

Yesterday's starting back four has to be replaced...totally.
And keeping Vertonghen and Alderweireld on contract is not the answer.... they are both past their prime.
Young up and coming defenders like Upamecano need to be bought in (RBLeipzig & France U21).

Simple for me Rakitic or Sissoko? if people prefer Sissoko then all good. I prefer Rakitic as CM. especially for europa league

I don’t think it is. Clubs don’t go around strengthening their strongest areas by signing older players short term to improve on their 4th choice option in that position.

Fwiw, I reckon Rakitic would probably prefer to stay in Spain anyway.
He famously loves the city of Seville (in all fairness, it’s pretty easy to if you buy into the local folklore) - he married a local girl and is a regular fixture at all the city festivals. If Sevilla want him and are willing to pay him decent wages, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s where he wound up.
