It is evident that us, along with other clubs, have a huge points differential to overhaul based on last year. And this season I fully expect Chelsea and utd to be closer to city and liverpool but still battling for third. Any battle for a top four will be a dissapointing season. We wont challenge for the title but I want top 4 comfortably sewn up with weeks of the season to go.
However, we may also not be playing catch up against liverpool and city because they are class acts but also due to the current state of our squad.
Multiple players missing due to covid risks, kovacic suspension early doors and also new signings and injuries (chillwell) are really going to hinder the beginning of our campaign.
How do you see us being affected? Will we be playing catch up after struggling for the first few weeks? or do you expect us to be fine and somehow get off to a good start?
What would be a good season for you?
Last year many of us around this time, couldn't have wished for a top 4 finish and we got it(leicester imploding certainly helped), so where do you see this year going?

In case it's lost on you, because I'm sure it has been, I've exposed that you have purposefully chosen to use language when describing Thiago Silva (referring to him solely as a '35 year old" and not mentioning his actual name) to downplay the signing and its significance. Now, I know why you've done this. Do you know though?

Im not sure yous will be playing catch up. In fact if yous are then surely it will be a major disappointment.
All summer ive been saying it will be us and city but i honestly have been taken aback by the sheer volume of quality players yous have brought in. I knew yous would spend but didnt expect this overhaul.
I think lampard has to deliver a challenge this season. Anything less and surely abramovich will be asking questions.

I agree with you Nick as you are more realistic.
Buying 5 players and expecting to challenge for the league is crazy. The manager needs time to implement his pattern of play with the new players.
The major weakness is the defence but think Silva will improve your team as he is better in reading the game unlike the others in defence.
