Man United target Leipzig's Upamecano

after sealing Van De Beek deal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano to bolster his defensive options at Manchester United, sources have told ESPN, after sealing a deal to make Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek his first major signing this summer.

Netherlands international Van de Beek is expected to complete a £40 million move to Old Trafford this week after agreeing terms with Ajax over the weekend. United have been pursuing the 23-year-old since January.
Sources have told ESPN that Solskjaer is now prioritising the addition of a top-quality centre-half to play alongside captain Harry Maguire and Upamecano is the top target.

The 21-year-old impressed during Leipzig's run to the Champions League semifinals in Lisbon earlier this month having just signed an extension to his contract until June 2023.

He had been due to be out of contract in June 2021 -- a deal which included a €60m release clause -- but despite committing his future to Julien Nagelsmann's team, reports in Germany claim that the new deal includes a release clause of €42m, which can be triggered at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Looks like United are serious about challenging for the Prem this season! While Levy continues to search for cheap deals.

Why are we comparing ourselves to ManU. Sorry but They are a bigger club with bigger budgets and it helps they have CL.

Agree we should be more ambitious but with the large stadium debt and pandemic ramifications think we just have to be creative in the market. We have to accept the reality.

This....... Van De Beek would have been a realistic target for Spurs given our weakness in CM and probably would have provided a nice balance with PEH but this deal just how much the pandemic has impacted the richest clubs. Spurs are dealing in the bargain bins/ players with contracts running down, while United are being priced out of moves for Sancho and signing talented young players who probably don't walk straight into their starting 11 but improve the overall strength of squad.

Its really only City and Chelsea who are capable of throwing big money around and that's simply a result of their ownership/ unlimited finances. Even Liverpool are struggling to find value while improving on what they already have

Last summer will start to feel even more painful for Spurs now given what they spent and how little they got back from the likes of Sess, NDombele & GLC. Sess and NDomebele look too lightweight/ overweight for Jose while the jury remains out on GLC

If anything can be learned from "All of nothing" you can see Jose wants the team built around the likes of Kane, Dele, Son & Dier. The signings of Doherty and PEH fall inline with that.... Tough mentally and 100% Committed

I wondered if we did... I know we were linked to him last season..... Decent player, lots of upside. would have made sense.

whats going on with GLC ?..... noticed he hasn't played in any of the preseason games. I know he was carrying an injury at the end of last year..... That still lingering ?

Any van de Beek bid would be dependent on NDombele.

If we are keeping him then we wouldn’t need (and couldn’t afford!) VDB. But if he is going then we need that deal done before we can sign a replacement. It’ll go to the very end of the window I expect - Utd have more money to buy first and then sell later.

"while United are being priced out of moves for Sancho"

I think this is more wishful thinking on your part than anything credible!

If this is true, all it shows is that United - with all their money and Champs League footie on offer - have more pulling power and ambition than Spurs. Which we already knew.

I can see Pool taking Sancho when they sell Mane or Salah to Barca

Well then, we have to hope that
Ndombele will get better this season and live up to Levy's expectations, and
Aldewiereld will last another season.
God only knows what to expect from Sanchez.
and Kane will get inured again, and there's no cover...yet........
and the old crew...Dier, Alli, et all will have to clank along.......
Midtable, top six, .... can we beat Locomotiv wherever?
