Jose man management

Just heard Carlton Cole on radio talking about his experience with Mourinho. He said he once held a meeting with the players at Chelsea and basically ripped into him for the entire meeting. He said it fired him up but that in today’s game it would be considered bullying. Jose’s man management style is quite similar to Cloughs, quite psychological and brutal at times. We saw glimpses of it in the Amazon doc.
So I guess the question is - can Jose’s style still work with players these days? Are they all just too soft and can’t take these kind of tactics? Is it resigned to the past and now only the Pep and Klopp style of pandering to the egos the only way now?

As Fergie said you have to know the players personality, some will rise to that kind of things others you cant do it to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's how Jose hasn't adapted to modern football. Someone like Ndombele needs to be treated differently to someone like Kane.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get the feeling jose cares more about sending the team a message fhan the player, cares more about the team than the individual.

If it's going well and we're winning matches then players should buy into his methods.

Surely we haven't become such a snowflake society that players shouldn't expect getting ripped into by their managers in football dressing rooms from time to time?

Agreed. But equally a man as well paid and experienced as Mourinho should be able to adapt to the resources at his disposal to get the most out of them.

I'm not saying he's not doing that in general at Spurs - no doubt his methods work well on some of the individuals in the squad - but it's hard to see his early comments about Ndombele (and Shaw/Martial/Pogba at United, and Casillas/Ramos at Real, and De Bruyne at Chelsea) and conclude that he got that (those) one(s) right.

This is true. Mourinho is intelligent enough to know that each individual may need to be handled differently. He's also, in his own words, capable of making mistakes and it's his treatment of some of his players that may well have proved his downfall at clubs, like United.

All we can hope for is he gets the majority of players on his side and the team keeps winning for as long as possible.

On the face of it, yeah. I think you'd need to ask Real/Chelsea/United fans if they deem his time at their clubs a success, to be fair.

Why would I do that when I am perfectly capable of forming my own opinions?

I think Jose's style is outdated although it was perfectly acceptable and expected a few years ago.

Yes he has a good record but that record was mainly with clubs where he could buy all the best players and spend a fortune, he does not have that with us.

Digging out individual players wont help and the public humiliation he heaps on players is just ridiculous.

Players make mistakes thats part and parcel of a the game the only time you should dig a player out personally is for not giving his best.

From there if he is not giving his best why in the manager picking him to play.

If he believes a player is not putting in the required effort then sort it out in training and make sure he is nowhere near the squad, its that easy.

Jose does that to hide his own shortcomings as a manager he really should know better. If Jose honestly thinks that none of his players are going to make mistakes he is joking.

Its not unusual for him to blame the referee either come to think of it.

Just about the only person Jose never blames is JOSE

He is by far our most succesfull manager ever, he did it by isolating the club and fans and directing problems away from the team, very clever man. His two chelsea sides were both successful in different ways. You just dont have the kind of players he needs to play his style.

Thoughts on his second spell? The first one was outstanding, no argument. That was back when he was at the cutting edge of management. Nowadays though...
