Savage: United 2nd

Next season is on the verge. And the "experts" is having a go on how the league table will look like at the end of the season.

Savage believe we will finish 2nd, only behind Liverpool the coming season. With Chelsea 3rd and City 4th.

- I can not wait to see United's new midfield trees with Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and new signing Donny van de Beek servers Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial.

So.. Obviously our X11 is quite strong.
I not sure about Liverpool the coming season, I feel they're on a decline without having to much to back that.
City, haven't improved much since last season - not sure about them.
Chelsea, improved much on paper, not sure how they will work out with so many newcomers.

It's a brave guess by Savage to believe we will finish 2nd, but if we can add quality width to our side (improve our X11 / bench) with 2 more players I believe we can do well.

Id say four is about right.

We’re gonna win the league and anyone saying otherwise is a clown.

LB is a problem due to Shaw being injury prone and our second choice isn't left footed. CB is one for two reasons, the ones who are fast are injury prone and the ones who are not aren't rapid.
We could possibly go a season without a DM as Matic AND Fred are both options there. McTominay in a pinch. We really do need to sort out our RW, which has been an issue for several years now. CF isn't a priority to address right now.

If I were to order it, it would be RW, LB/CB and then DM/CF.

Were better placed than Arsenal and Tottenham. Both of them will do better but have their own issues to address. Arsenal under Arteta reminds me of how United were before Bruno and having Pogba out - in that they struggle in games they should do well but do well against the higher place teams. They're trying to address those weaknesses though. Spurs have their own issues but I don't see Jose finishing what he's doing there. Either he'll go by the end of this season or the first half of next.

Then there are Leicester and Wolves who will also be looking to kick on. So we can't rest on what we have.

Would love to close the gap, and UTD become bonafide contenders. What the Prem is missing is the 2 giants of English football going at it, at the same time.
The magnitude of these two going head to head is moosive!
Alas I don’t think we have the squad/numbers in right now to compete all the way. I see us battling Spurs, Chelsea for 4th, 3rd.
Unless Ole does a madness...

I’d be worried about Arsenal breaking into that pack next season. Arteta appears to be the business so far, I think he’ll lead his side into the top 4.

Gonna be an interesting race.

Liverpool haven’t strengthened and their board are being mega tight rather than improving from a position of strength. Thiago needs to happen for them imo or complacency will cost them.

City still need to improve defensively, I feel they will be around the same level next season. Replacing Silva and Sane are key. Torres is an unknown to me and Foden is levels below Silva.

Chelsea massively impressive business but the no1 problem position remains in goal. They will be improved with a proper number 9. Hit the ground running and they could win it. Havertz will be a joy to watch.

United are painful in the transfer market. Van de Beek is class though. Still got a few problem positions namely LB and RW. Plus a proper centre half to play next to Maguire and an out and out 9 if they want to be in a serious discussion for a title.

Arsenal will improve the signs have been very good under Arteta. Lack of money to get ready made players is a concern but on paper they seem to have two young promising CBs. If they cut it then they are easily top 4 contenders. Lose Aubameyang and forget it though.

Spurs another team that seem to have little money. Sensible proven signings in their problem areas improve the team. Desperate for another striker but if they have bought into Mourinho they will be in there too.

Good summary

I think Arsenal and Spurs will be a little more consistent next season, but I think they’re both still a little short of the quality required in their squads to upset the top four.

Arsenal? Easily top 4?
Man, I can’t make that logically work for me. Nothing to do with bias and whatnot.
In the league, they were 3 points behind UTD with a game in hand in 8th spot. The game restarted, and they Finished the season 8th, 10 points behind UTD.

I do not see them making this leapfrog over the others.
I can deffo see them closing the gap, cos honestly, it’s not that much of a gap, if you a serious contender for Euro spots.
And we all know Arsenal love their Euro spots. One time they thought they deserved a trophy for it.... anyhoo, All I see them as, is Retirement Home F.C.

If in Feb, Arsenal are in the Top 4 spots, then I may start to take them seriously.
