Arteta Just Made His Life 10 x Harder

You can forget about that solid, well organised defenders this season, now. It's back to the clueless at directing, shot stopper.

Can't believe the club caved to Leno demanding the No. 1 spot back. He doesn't currently deserve it and the GA column will be reading higher than it needed to this season because they caved to that little brat. The owner is a feckin and the manager is the arrogant, entitled GK's biyatch. Lovely club we have

20m for a backup keeper when you are skint is good business. That will probably allow you to get a midfielder in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fans just think "sell Torreira for £35m, sell Guendouzi for £30m, sell Holding for £20m, sell Kolasinac for £20m, sell Sokratis for £20m" and so on, as if the club hasn't tried. They don't understand that for you to sell someone you need interest, and that interest has to come from clubs willing to spend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is the wages most of our deadwood are on relative to their talent. Like Mkhi we may have to cancel the contracts of a couple more just get them off the books.
In addition to Emi, I still think (and hope) we will get a few bucks for Kola, Sokratis, Torriera and Chambers in this window.
Ozil and Mustafi will run down their contracts.

Little chance of Kola getting a fee. It would be a loan with either us paying a huge part of his wages, or no fee.
Sokratis looks more like a free transfer.
Chambers is injured. Any club would be mad to buy him now rather than wait until January.

Even Torreira is hard to sell for a fee. The market is mid-table Serie A clubs who don't spend big. One club in for him, Fiorentina, has a record spend of £18m and want him on loan. Torino have just broke their record with an £18m signing. They seem willing to buy outright but Torreira seemingly prefers Fiorentina.

We have not won any trophy with Leno so people are right to be concerned

Why do you write like that? Are you like this in real life too or just on Internet forums?

Selling Martinez is such a bad decision. 😑

How is it that you don't understand that a big part of the reason that that Leno has faced as many shots as he has, to impress you so much saving them. Is thge fact he's been utterly clue less at commanding his 6 yard box and signalling/directing his defenders.

You're also talk as though Emi is a poor shot stopper, he isn't. The difference in the two's ability to stop shots. Is not a big enough gap to negate Emi's far superior presence, gameplay reading and organisational skills. One has THREE attributes the other has yet to develop. If being a goalie was solely about stopping shots, then Leno would already be the best in the world. But it isn't because he still has to LEARN the three things Emi wipes the floor with him on.

Leno has more god given physical talent and the higher ceiling. But due to APSECTS GK'ING OTHER THAN SHOT STOPPING! Emi is CURRENTLY the better goalkeeper. Says alot about Leno's character that he even believes he should be the No. 1 keeper after having his own flaws intensely highlighted by Em's performances the way he has. He had absolutely no business demanding the spot back this soon (still got youth and naivety and time on his side). For me this shows a clear unwillingness on his part to improve himself and take his spot back on merit. Not a good sign.

Arteta SHOULD have told him "When you can organise the defence like Emi, then ya can make demands on the No. 1 spot. Until then, we own your contract and ya going nowhere. So shut ya trap, sit on the bench and pay attention to Emi's play so YOU CAN LEARN WHAT YOU NEED TO! Now get out of my office and next time you come in, you best leave the feckin attitude at the door!" The fact he never is almost certain to be back to haunt us. Most likely by Leno re-injuring himself early in the season whilst trying to "Impose myself like Emi," on a corner. And of course feckin it and himself right up because he's clueless how to do it properly. There will be trouble ahead.

Where the Facjk are you getting your info that Leno DEMANDED his place back?? Why are you making up BS?

Yeah, a weird statement to make. WB2 is well known for being irrational though.

I read something as he came back after what Emi said post-final about needing more games to stay. Leno had told Arteta flat he's not being No. 2 and if he wasn't getting the No. 1 spot back he wanted out of the club. Piece was on how his insistence now created a problem for Arteta given Emi's statements days earlier.

Could have been made up but I doubt it seeing as we're selling Emi. 15 mil isn't worth losing the security of keeping both. The issue has been pressed by both players refusing to accept No. 2 until the Jan window at earliest. Age, time and merit ALL say Leno should stay on the bench for now and improve himself in areas beyond shot stopping. Him not being willing to even for a few months, is what forces this sale at this time. Not 15 mil toward Partey and/or other. Because having the two keepers at AFC is worth a damned site more money to us than that.
