DD

No, not today’s Sunday Sport

So the elusive Dermot does an interview for The Athletic. Widely reported in various forms elsewhere. Wish he’d speak more as he always talks sense. How much direct involvement does he have? How often does he talk with our management? More important, what is his succession plan? At 70yo now that becomes a consideration. Understand his boys are supporters but will they assume his business empire? Most important, will we see Andrea Corr at CP?

I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but good imho he still wants to pursue a better league for us. Not scientific but the poll in the herald has support for the OF joining a British league at >70%.

The frustration for me is his comment about maybe the team needs psych help for Europe then Lenny saying aye, that’s a consideration. Why does it take an absentee director to be thinking that? A business like ours with so much focussed on 11 key employees performance should have a full time appointment whether it is deemed needed every day or not. Griff alone could probably wear the guy out and give them great thesis material.

Anyway, fire in - DD, Andrea, league, whatever.

I stopped taking the article seriously when he indicated that this team is an improvement on the 2003 team 🤣 Also Lenny will be going nowhere with the love in DD has for him.

Our teams won't be joining the English league/a British league and anybody (whichever club they're from) who suggest they will be is either kidding themselves on or kidding us on.

When I was a boy I had a paper round and one of the houses used to get the Sunday Sport delivered. It was brilliant. The readers letters page was essential reading.

I’m far from convinced that eventually tv and media will dictate who plays where.

A matter of time. Likely not in my time but let’s not kid on that sponsors and tv companies don’t run the clubs. They absolutely do.

Elsewhere, encouraging words from Lenny.

“It’s common sense. Broony knows he’ll not be able to play all the games — but he’s very fit, as he always has been.

“He’s injury free and his form is good because in these last few games he’s come into his own. We’ll have a conversation with him as we go along about dipping in and out.

“There may be games where he could do with putting his feet up or getting a bit of breathing space.

“We’ll try to have him ready for the really intense games where his experience and quality are valuable.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact he admits Broony will be rested is encouraging, altho Stevie Wonder could see that TBH. Needlessly played the full 90 yet again yesterday though, so I’ll take that with a pinch of salt.

What’s pretty alarming is that Lenny thinks Broony has been in good form (WTF?!) ... and is vital for the really intense games. This season so far would suggest he’ll be a man down in those games ... off the pace, a walking yellow/red card, and offering minimal protection to our ever-changing defence ... and often dropping them in it with awful passing.

BTW I actually am a huge admirer of what Broony’s done for our club over such a long period. His time’s up though, in the big games. He shouldn’t be playing 90 mins in the bread and butter games either.
