A Word For Hugo Lloris

I've been one of his biggest critics over the years. There have undoubtedly been times in the past when he has cost us dearly. I even questioned why he should be captain when is was such a liability.

However, over the last few games (towards the end of last season ) and this season so far he has been magnificent, so credit where credit is due.

That one handed save from point blank range yesterday probably gave us the platform to go on and win the game.

Also, the Amazon documentary showed his leadership qualities. I must say that he always seemed quiet and soft on the pitch, but I have now seen why Poch and Mourinho have him as captain. We still need more leadership on the pitch and hopefully the new signings will provide that.

Well done Hugo.....keep it up! (no pun intended!)

That point blank save is just....out of this world!

I was expecting the net to bulge up and their player running away in celebration until LLoris dived and made that save!

He is amazing and that was priceless as conceding at that time would have hit our players confidence hard.

Nice one Hugo!

That's more than one word OP but I think after winning the WC he probably went on a prolonged bender which affected his form.

The bit from the docu when he had a go at Son for not working for the team was music to my hears. Love to see that from my captain.

Hugo has always been an unbelievable shot stopper, his issue has been terrible high profile errors which stick in your mind.

Having to play out from the back less under Jose has probably helped with that

This is a very good point. We all know that he is poor with his feet and currently the tactics suit him. Let's hope that if/when we decide to play out from the back again he does not revert to type.

I've also been one of his biggest critics on here but although he should of done better with Ings opener in general he's been very good since Jose took over and long may it continue.

Blame the CBs, letting a striker get in between them - school boy error and also allowing the striker to shoot!

Yes Hugo is back to his best.

The Ings goal yesterday the ball appeared to bobble over his hand, and the main culprit for conceding that goal was Sanchez who failed to block the shot.

Yes he's one who's definitely improved in the last 12 months and Chris's comment is a good point.

I always defended him until the last year or so when his errors got too much, but since the restart he's done very well. Good to have him back.

I never get that argument?

Regardless of whats gone on infront of him he should of saved that shot.

However in the main he's been great recently and that is all good as it saves us having to fork out for a new keeper.

I do think he has benefited from there being no crowds. Technically he is an exceptional keeper, but his main issue has usually been he makes big errors in big games. Maybe the lack of crowd has helped him keep his composure better?

Either way, he's been excellent post lockdown

Not playing out from the back so often has helped him out a lot.
He got lucky with that Ings handball thou.
