VAR

So, Liverpool have been handed 6 points by var, in the first two games of the season.

Two penalties Vs Leeds, one of them pretty suspect.

A red card for Chelsea, which should never have been a red card.

Be honest, Kepa was already at the ball, by the time Mane got fouled. He would not have beaten Kepa to the ball.

I seem to remember in a game the previous season, about two months ago we had either rashford or martial through on goal, they were wiped clean out in the box from behind and the opposition only got a yellow card for it.

What's the difference here, is it that we had a man in the box and mane was outside the box?
Ridiculous if that's the case... Or is it just pure old ineptitude.

Can anyone provide a 'without VAR' table? I can

Liverpool 0 pts
united 1 pt.

seems absurd Manu fans moaning about decisions on the pitch when they had every dodgy decision going for them under Fergie ,short memories how the mighty have fallen
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we really did get every decision didn't we? of course even - in fact, especially - under SAF we won fewer penalties than you, picked up more yellow cards, and more red cards, but other than those we got every decision going.

Player has arm fully extended on side ball is travelling towards goal, saving it. No penalty.

Player rugby tackles opponent when through on goal, denying a goal scoring opportunity. No red card.

And you want people to take your opinion on referees and VAR seriously?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, considering the inconsistency in refereeing, I think the comments are justified.
One of the penalties was dubious, you'd have to be an idiot to think it wasn't.

I'm trying to find a clip of it to back up my opinion but not having much luck..

Can anyone else find a clip of the penalty decisions?

I can't understand how an arm outstretched on the side the ball is travelling, towards goal, blocking the shot, isn't handball. It isn't one bit dubious. It's a perfect example of a handball. In fact I would have given it before the rule change nevermind after it. After it, it's a certainty. Look what the head of UEFA referees said:-

The handball law as it stands was introduced in the summer of 2019 and fully outlined by UEFA's head of referees, Roberto Rossetti in January 2019 ahead of the law coming in.

Rossetti said of deflections leading to handball: "The big challenge is the position of the arm ... If the defender is making the body bigger in order to block the ball it is not fair.

"It is different if the defender is challenging or playing the ball and it rebounds."

"If he is looking to block a cross or a shot on goal and the player is trying to spread his body then it is a handball."

The moment against Leeds was compared to last year's UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham, where a penalty was awarded following a handball by Moussa Sissoko.

Rossetti commented on that incident saying: "This is a correct decision now and next season. It's a penalty. It doesn't matter if ball touched before the chest and then the arm of the player, it's a penalty."

In a similar vein, Michael Oliver's decision on Saturday falls under Rossetti's description of the rules as well, as Koch's arm was outstretched, making the player bigger and blocked the shot rather than moving in an honest attempt to play the ball.

FIFA has instructed the top flight of English football to fall in line and apply the rule more strictly, as elsewhere in Europe.

Definite red?

I didn't see anyone saying that when martial was karate chopped in the box just before the last season ended.

All we heard was, nah yellow card, new rules, yellow card.
Keeper was there to clear the ball, not a clear red.

This is definitely the sort of argument that an 8 year old would construct and think is valid.

Making it easier for someone as basic as yourself to understand.
I can write English extremely well, but I'm not sure ja606, a place full of football fans, is the best place to do that... Especially seeing as scousers seem to be incredibly attracted to the United board.

There is a difference between something being easy to read and being correct, and something being easy to read and being incorrect; you've nailed the latter.
