Microsoft buys Bethesda

Looks like Xbox will win the next console cycle...

posted on 22/9/20

”Quite, 14 million sold on Xbox = more money for Microsoft than 8.4m on Ps4 (with Sony getting a cut) and 5m on XBone.“

It wouldn’t be that though, the sales total would be far bigger if cross platform, just look at the best selling games.

Of course they do, but you don't want to ship your opponents consoles for them.. I bought my ps4 the day fallout released as a bundle. Skyrim was day 1 on the 360 for me.

Whoever is winning the "console war" gets the most 3rd party attention.

They really don’t care that much as it isn’t where the money is anymore. There’s a reason they talk about amazon and google as competitors more than they do Sony. Given they also signed the deal with Sony around using their data centres as well, Microsoft profit from Sony doing well too.

Sony will keep doing exclusives as that is their model, they want to shift as many consoles as possible. That’s not and hasn’t been Microsoft’s for a while though.

Microsoft is moving more towards a service model, a la Netflix and prime - as Melton says, that’s why they speak of google as competitors over Sony.

Apparently they tried to get games pass on both PlayStation and iOS recently, but were turned down (that’s conjecture, of course).

You can see that both firms are becoming more collaborative, with Sony bringing a lot of its IPs to PC, albeit timed.

Definitely an interesting acquisition and a huge statement of intent; it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. The acquisition doesn’t finalise until mid 2021 as well.

Yep exactly.

Game pass is what they’re after regardless of the device - that and owning the data centres.

It does make sense, better for consumers too.

Can you store beers inside the Xbox?

Sony are taking their games to PC (with pretty extreme exclusivity times) because it's millions more sales.

They are still going to compete with regards to consoles, they would both rather be the sole force in the console market,

Been saying it for a while now, ES6 won't come to the PS5. But you will be able to play it as GamePass will go to Sony by 2022, wouldn't surprise me if ES6 is the first title that headlines GamePass when it becomes available, also expect MSs streaming service to be available on Switch by middle of next year.

I'd agree with that too actually. That MS will acquire a lot more exclusive AAA games.

Available on PS only with the premium game passes
