Social Media Traffic

Ian McGarry of the Transfer window (take that for what it's worth - not sure of reliability) claims that during investor meetings the club boast of social media activity and that deals like the one for Paul Pogba (done weeks before it was announced) were dragged out all summer to increase the social media buzz. Kind of confirms what we already suspected about how the hierarchy run the club in terms of footballing business. If this is absolutely clownish behavior from the club. Despite our finances it feels like while these people are calling the shots, we've been competing with one arm behind our back since SAF and Gill retired.

That's all this club is bothered about nowadays.

Yeah in all likelihood to be more of an anecdote that's been blown into something it's not. Guess I'm looking for a crumb of comfort that our late transfer business is due to something calculated which can easily be fixed rather than the seemingly rife incompetence at the higher levels of Manchester United.

I would hope not, but I would imagine players social media accounts are very important parts of any transfer for Ed.. which is arrrse backward

I don’t see that they’d be concluding deals then purposefully keeping them hushed or actually shelving the signing date though.

on the wages United pay to new signings I can fully understand why the club might try and defer the contract signing date as late as possible during a transfer window. Why pay a new player during June July August if you don't have to.

Bear in mind that incoming and outgoing transfers tend to enable each other, so the savings made by delaying the acquisition of Player X could be offset by continuing to pay Players Y and Z.

...speaking of which, I wonder whether our failure to complete transfers this summer is related to our failure to sell surplus players so far.

I think that Moyes, LVG or Jose would have blown the lid off that story, tbh... It goes against everything any sane manager would allow for.

You want the player at the club or not.

The additional wages paid through a few weeks during preseason surely can’t be considered a concern when measured against the loss of the work the player could be doing in settling in and with the squad on the training ground, bringing forward advertising and merchandising opportunity, and of course, the risk of losing the player to another club or the deal falling through.

I thought it was already common knowledge that Ed talks about social media interactions during these meetings.

I would imagine that has some part to play in our dealings this year. though it does highlight again how haphazard our recruitment policy has been over the years. Seems like the club have taken the path of least resistance quite a lot. Easier to put 100k in front of Phil Jones than sign a new CB.
