So what`s the position now with

Covid Postive Tests for players and managers now? Last night Spurs game was called off with Orient, and righly so because so many Orient players have tested positively for Covid, yet David Moyes tested positive along with other players, and yet their game was allowed to be played. I don`t get it. I would have though if Moyes has tested positive, he would have been in close contact with every player at the club, and I thought the rules are self isolation for a fortnight in that scenario.

Surely West Ham will have to cancel their games for the next fortnight minimum, or am I missing something here.

Anyone think the new rules introduced by Chuck Boris will make a difference?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. But he’s set it up nicely so he can blame all of us when things get worse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He already has blamed everyone. Wasn`t it he that said everybody should go back to work, travel on public transport, go out and spend money in pubs and restaurants, children back to school. Then he has the cheek to say nobody is following the rules. Pretty obvious that once it all opened up again with hardly any social distancing, then it would all take off again.

Yes, you're missing that they'll all be tested and if negative will play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So why if the General public come into contact with a person who has the virus, but they may not have the virus, they still have to self isolate for two weeks. Why is it one rule for footballers and another rule for the rest of us?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that’s not actually true Sandy. But I don’t blame you for being confused, the government advice isn’t exactly clear!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Philspurs, there seems to be no clear rules around football players. Yes, I know they are getting regular tests, but they are still catching the virus in ever increasing numbers it seems. Surely if a manager catches it, then the whole squad have a chance of catching it from the manager, so surely the same rules have to apply to them as the general public. Cannot have different rules.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No sorry I’m referring to the rules on the general public. You don’t have to self isolate for two weeks just if you’ve come into contact with someone who has the virus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought that was the rule with Test and Trace, whether you had symptons or not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, yes and no. It’s a kind of ‘it depends’ scenario. Depends what level of contact you’ve had. For example if you’ve been close than social distancing requirements with someone who’s tested positive then yes you need to isolate.

It’s all a big mess and incredibly poorly managed!

Footballers are being treated differently to the rest of us. But it's either that or no football. So we get continued entertainment for the sake of this difference. Similar to how Ant & Dec are following different rules not available to the general public, but the result is that ITV get to put on a Saturday night show watched by millions. I bet the Strictly contestants and dancers will do the same.

I don't care if it's not equal. People are going to need some joy over this winter. If that comes from accepting that footballers or entertainers live by different but still relatively reasonable rules then it's entirely worth it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If people cannot go without football for a few months, then there is something wrong with them. 1st World War, three years without any football, 2nd World War six years without football. It is what it is. People either go without a few things for now, or this thing lingers on for years.

I like football as much as any on the boards, but certainly not at the expense of people`s lives.

He made himself look a fool yesterday, stumbling over every question he was asked, repeating himself, let's be honest there all full of chit anyway, and they have no clue how to manage this virus.

This isn't at the expense of people's lives though. It's just an exception for a very, very small proportion of the population. Plus they get regular tests (privately paid for). Practically speaking, this is not going to be a tipping point between the virus spreading or not. I really don't understand the problem unless you're so determined to have absolute equality in society that you believe football must be locked down for it.

The same reason that has been explained to you on numerous occasions. Footballers are being routinely tested.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And lots being found positive, thus with a great chance of spreading it around because of their close contact on a football pitch. You know just like happens in the real world with the general public, lots of those are tested regularly as well, but it still doesn`t stop them catching it and spreading it around.

I just fail to see why footballers are beating treated any differently to the rest of us.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow.

How many times?

Players will be tested and if negative, will play. All that stuff you wrote above doesn't matter. How long does this have to play out before you get it.

Let's create a simple scenario.

Bale tests positive.

Spurs say Bale, isolate at home.

Spurs have the whole squad tested. Lamela tests positive also but the rest are negative. Lamela isolates at home in on the treatment table at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The rest of the squad, being negative, carry on.

After isolation and a negative test, Bale and Lamela rejoin the squad.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Economy is the reason for keeping football going. It has nothing to do with keeping people's spirits up, which is just an emotionally-driven veil to justify it's continuation. The government won't want it to stop, the owners definitely won't want it to stop but there is a tipping point where players and staff will simply go on strike if they feel it's dangerous to continue. They might be safe but what of their loved ones? Troy Deeney, for instance, has a son with an underlying condition. Players will just down tools if they're considered expendable pawns by the powers above them.

This is really beginning to ramp up now and last night's cancellation is just the start. I've got a feeling we won't see Bale playing this side of Christmas, nor any other player past mid October. Can you imagine football carrying on with a backdrop of 600 deaths a day? No chance and that's where we're heading.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they can be, Sandy. There is enough money in football to pay for tests as needed privately.

Of course they therefore do not need to follow the same rules as us. Don't forget it's a workplace for them, not just a kickaround down the park.
