I imagine Roy Keane would have given Beckham a hug if he cost them the CL to be honest.

Don't fall into the trap.

No one suggested Shearer should have hugged Beckham ffs!

I'll tell you what Keane would have done. He would have had it out with a player and then moved on, probably supporting the player publicly.

He wouldn't have sulked and given a player the silent treatment like a child (or TOOR).

Not sure Keane would have "supported" the player publicly. I imagine he'd have been very honest about any given situation, much like his punditry nowadays.

Winston wants to cuddle him and make him some tea with honey to get over kicking a player on purpose, letting all his teammates down. Great captain material.

Yeh, hard one to call.

But I think when Beckham started to get the dogs abuse that he did, players like Keane would have rallied around him.

That's what teammates do, let alone captains.

I do honestly think it comes down to whoever your captain is and what conversations happened at the time and after the event really. I mean privately as well, not just what we see on the training field.

Of course, but we're debating what makes a good captain.

Captains need to demand respect. Ignoring a teammate because they did something wrong on the pitch is not going to earn any respect, if indeed that's what happened.

Good captains are also generally good readers of people and know who can tolerate what, and what people need to get the best out them.

Fergie's a poor manager as he kicked a boot at Beckham's head instead of cuddling him.

I can see the error here. He didn't kick it at Beckham. Beckham just got his head in the way.

Not like Beckham to risk wrecking his hair. Or was he bald by that stage?

Keane was sat in the stands due to ill-discipline.
