Thought he had a really good game last night, fair enough it was Barnsley but they pressed really well and caused the usually reliable kovacic all sorts of problems. At his best like yesterday barkley can move the ball quickly, play with both feet, give and go quickly or move through the lines with the ball at feet. Problem is his best usually is few and far between. I know alot of people want shut but id rather keep him, brings us another option if we want to play him as part of a 2 man midfield.

Although I'll freely admit he has his moments, I've never been a fan of Barkley going way back to his early Everton days.
Technically he's really good, had a couple of bad injuries & he's still PL quality where that's concerned, but his football brain is just pants.

I didn’t see the game yesterday - was Barkley playing with Kovacic in a central 2? If so, is that why we allowed Barnsley so many shooting opportunities? Neither of them can really be considered a defensive midfield player. Even Kante plus Kovacic never seems entirely secure - never mind Barkley. On the plus side - Barkley can shoot and score (and miss apparently).

We've got Gilmour for that, whenever he comebacks from injury and already shown to have more game intelligence, spatial awareness and mental capacity than Barkley on the pitch.
Even when Frank moved Bill further up the pitch (with Reece at the base of midfield) looked the part, seamless.

I'd definitely keep Barkley in the squad this season. As a good squad player he's invaluable and he does make the difference in certain games. Next summer we can reassess the situation and see if he's worth keeping further.
