What I'm looking for this weekend

is a thumping win against Brighton.
More than that I want to see Ole patrolling the side line, barking out instructions, berating the fourth official, no hint of a smile, sorry grin, even when the final goal goes in.
That way we can all be happy and enjoy the rest of the day

Brighton have played two more competitive games than us I think? So will be fitter and more ready for it than we are. Plus they’ve had good results the last 2 so will be confident.

So not long ago, Our fans were moaning that we playing to many games with the same players are that they are tired, Now it’s they not played enough, Which is it?

If you understood the importance of conditioning and recovery for elite sports professionals, and how their bodies work, you’d know that both have applied to us in the last four months or so.

Ideally, players need 6-7 days between games to maintain peak performance. Games coming quicker than that rate over an extended period results in players doing more damage to their bodies over each 90 min game than they can recover. Basically, their bodies enter into cycles of (soft tissue, in particular) deterioration that heighten the risk of injury and ultimately can only be recovered with longer breaks.

This is why the summer break is so important for elite clubs which demand that their top players turn out twice a week.

Through a longer break, players’ musculoskeletal integrity can be rebuilt and restored, but that can come at the cost of fitness and conditioning. Basically, the job of the fitness coaches and medical staff is to balance conditioning and recovery. Or it should be.

According to Richard Hawkins (our Head of Athletic Performance), the primary purpose of fitness training at the elite level *used* to be pushing the boundaries of human performance and sustaining the highest work rates. Now it is primarily oriented to doing everything possible to keep players injury-free and available to play twice a week.

The scheduling in the game and the pressure for results at the top level is already damaging players’ bodies.

.......

Both are correct comments at the given time. You would have to be an idiot to come to any other conclusion.

I personally found VC's argument more compelling - yours was a little lacking in detail - but each to their own.
