What to do with Dele?

As much as I hate the False 9 formation. I can only see Dele playing second string team in a False 9. Our front 3 with Bale fit is too strong for him to start. I would even argue Bergwijn and Lucas are far more effective. Making him 6th choice attacker.

Our B string team could look like this. I couldn't bring myself to put Winks or Sissoko as a DM. So for the hell of it...threw Foyth in there. Call him a sweeper if you like.

Lucas.................Bergwijn
................Dele
Sissoko..............Winks
...............Foyth............
Davies LCB RCB Aurier
.................Hart

Can pick any combination of CBs. All are much of a muchness. Although I think Sanchez is our best CB.

Dele is a valuable squad member and will be needed this season when we get our inevitable long list of injuries.

He has kind of lost his way of late but is still one of our few creative players that can unlock a stubborn defence. People give him a hard time because he tries flicks and tricks and when they don`t come off they get pist off with him, but what else should he do, pass it 5 yards sideways and backwards like Winkssoko.

Dele provides goals and assists, and when we come up against some decent defenders we will need his guile, see the Everton game when he was subbed off and we then created fack all after an ok first half,

Some people just listen to the sensationalist media too much, we would regret ever selling Dele in my opinion.

Completely disagree.
I used to say the same until last season when I gave up trying to justify his awful attitude and consistently poor performances.
When was the last time he put a run of decent games together? It’s three years now! Three. Let that sink in.
I’m gutted because I thought he’d do what Bale did - and he could have!

What's the saying? Form is temporary but class is permanent? I think Jose is doing the right thing by taking him out of the team for a bit. He'll find his mojo again.

You also have to remember Dele is still relatively a young player, despite his quick meteoric rise, and has also had a few niggling injuries the last couple of years, that combined with our squad being neglected and a lot of our players going past their prime, and he has become somewhat of a scapegoat. He was still contributing when others like Eriksen had basically given up, he is also the reason we got to the CL final after that last minute deft pass to Lucas.

Some people have short memories and are too occupied with the here and now and whatever narrative the media are currently pedaling.

I somehow don't think we will see the best of Dele again. It's sad because there is a really talented player in there with potential to even reach world class levels but I don't think Dele will ever have the application to bring that out for the foreseeable future.

I said before last season if he didn't start showing better performances that we should consider selling and despite a small rise in his performances when Jose first came in, we've not seen anything since. Happy to keep as squad material but if a good offer comes in I'd be tempted to sell.

Agree Spurtle - for his own sake and for the club, think it do him well to have a fresh start somewhere else 👍

Quite right mate.

Basically Dele is now no better a player than Lamela is and it's been that way for maybe a couple of years, apart from that brief spell when Jose first came in.

Where he was once ahead of Son, he has gone backwards and Son has just gone up levels. The fact that it's been made public that he's a poor trainer and is sporting a silly moustache and has blonde cobwebs on his head, makes me think it's not going to improve. That spell of short-lived improvement seemed to coincide with Jose's one on one with him in the office about wanting more from him, and now he's since back to his poor level I can see why Jose might be giving up hope, as am I.

All of our CBs are poor tbh, arguing over who is the best is almost pointless

Sanchez is shaky, poor on the ball and overall a liability

Dier has the power and strength but lacks anticipation and positioning. I'd persist with him there purely in the hope those things improve with experience playing at the back

Toby has declined dramatically - he's so slow and is weak in duels. All he has is a long pass on him nowadays

If we get a top CB in im happy with any of our other CBs partnering them tbh, like you say not much in them, all have pluses and weaknesses. It will be Dier though, pray he develops into a better centre half.

For some reason I still think he will come good. Maybe needs a change of position. Left mid or something.

Well for a start, the media low life's should give it a rest with what is just not a worthy story.

Second Jose is right to drop him. Bill Nic, Fergie, Shankly and Clough would have done exactly the same.

Thirdly get him training away from the limelight, set some basic rules of recovery, make it clear he has the club's support and the rest must sit with Ali himself.

Oh and am really disappointed with JJ. Thought he was a Spurs man through and through, but this article just shows he is, like the rest of the pundits, desperately seeking his "day in the sun" moment, but at his old club's expense.Shame on him, and lost my respect as a pundit.
