Are there any football historians on

the board, who can tell me when was the last season that league games took place on Cup Final Day. I have a Spurs v Newcastle programme for April, 1948, which was cup final day of that season (Cup Final used to be played in April back in the day). I never did find out though when Cup Final Day was cleared of all fixtures. Assume it must have been in the 1950s, as I always remember watching the Cup Final in May late 1950s. I must admit I always assumed no games were ever played on Cup Final Day, although modern day stuff probably are some lower league games.

Anybody help me out?

Yep this. United drew 1-1 at Blackburn, then City beat Stoke 1-0 later in the day. 2011.

Yup I thought there may have been the odd game. But I think the 1948 game was a full fixture list. That is what I was more on about.

I'm sure there was a full fixture list in 2011, it's just United were the lunchtime kick-off, although I might be wrong.

I assume you mean FA Cup as it happens with the league cup every year.

To answer your question hasn't it happened quite a lot as the FA cup final upto 2002 and again between 2011 and 2013 was on the penultimate weekend of the season, with the finalist's fixtures being moved to the midweek.

So in short, 2013!

Good shout. Wigan won the cup, then got relegated after getting hammered by Arsenal in midweek I think. Talk about a comedown
