This and that and Ole

I will start with Ole first.
To be clear I support him not because he played for us, but because he deserves it.
Last season was his first full season and he did well, our results, position in league, runs in cups were all satisfactory.
Most poster felt getting into the top four was enough for us to back him. Two games where we have played poorly and the narrative has changed. Fickle in my eyes.

He inherited a mess, we all agree on that. Gradually he has improved it, but so far this window we have not signed who he would want, or sold who he would let go. I think it is partly the Covid 19 and uncertainty about income, and poor negotiation.

He certainly is not immune from criticism, especially I think on player choices, but we have different choices from each other. Even on the Liverpool board there are posts blaming Klopp for playinng so and so, or not subbing someone. I have my views on that same as everyone else, and I find myself in agreement with Python, I would give Pog a rest and give Donny a run in the team. We get a currently better player, and get to see what he can do.
Shaw is decent imo. AWB needs a regular proper winger in front of him then he can concentrate on defence, his forte, and build a rapport with the new man to form a good partnership.

Many say we have no style to the team. I'm not quite sure what they mean, formation perhaps, Gengenpressen is about the only 'style' I know;
I want our defenders to play well as a unit,our midfield to be a mix of helping defence, feeding the forwards, and helping the goals for column. When we had our good run before lockdown I don't know what style we had, but we looked good, played as a team and won matches, which is good enough for me.

I think we are at a position where the right decisions could make us contenders, wrong ones spoil a good start. I want Ole to get it right, not because he's my hero, but because I support the club he manages.

I often read that Ole has done well but isn't the man to win us titles, he is not in the class of Pep and Klopp.
How do they know? I don't. Pep took over super clubs with good or great teams already.
Klopp had to learn his trade and suffered a relegarion, as did Ole. Ole was also on a hiding to nothing at Cardiff if what I read about the owner interference is true;
It's perfectly possible Ole may show he can be just as good as the two mentioned. It's also perfectly possible he may not.
Let's find out eh.
Appointing another manager be it Poch, who like Ole so far, has won nothing? or Nagelsman who is unknown over here.
Then we start again with new methods, new personnel. And I doubt the owners will pay out like they have in the past,at least for two or three years.

Whew, time for a coffee, anything less than one star I'll be disappointed. But it's how I feel and what I wanted to say.

You forget to mention that our squad is very light and weak and will struggle to compete at a high level for long with CL also to contend with.

That's why we need the 4 additions

Pep the genius is losing 5-2 at home to Leicester, same Leicester we pipped to 3rd last season.

Just saying.

And we lost to Palace 3-1 last week. With next to no pre season and restrictions from covid we will see unexpected results.

So expect a more open season, even Liverpool will be more fragile.

Arsenal will beat Liverpool tomorrow

Not necessarily, Liverpool and will likely drop points but they still have the strongest teams and best managers and will compete for the top 2 spots.

But covid restrictions and condensed season means we are in uncharted territory, a lot more surprises will be sprung

Best yes, let me introduce you to complacency!

Ole is a nice guy and did well to get 3rd, but I do fear that if we don't start making our financial advantages count soon, we could face a very long time outside the title race.

Whatever side of the fence you are on re Oles signings so far, it cannot be argued that they are good enough to turn us into title winners within a season or 2., which should be the aim for a club the size of United.

Whatever way you cut it, we need to be better at identifying quality players, better at coaching them to their full potential and better at getting the best out of them on the pitch. We have neither the time, and more importantly, the money to continue as we have been.
