I have to say I am pretty well done

with the modern game, the rules and the referees are a total farce.

Four things wrong with the build up to the goal

1. Firsty it was not even a foul
2. Carroll and at least one other were offside
4. Dier was getting pushed when he went up for the ball
3. How are you supposed to stop the ball hitting you if you have your back to the ball.

So with all that in mind, the referee fecked up on everything, cowardly hiding behind the ridiculous VAR.

Forget about the fact that Spurs should have been out of sight, and nearly always find a way to concede in any game, the rule needs changing. I make that about four times Spurs have been done over by VAR in the past half a dozen of so Prem games.

There is no longer any enjoyment in football, knowing that everytime a ball goes into the box, a penalty could be given for absolutely nothing. Players, managers, supporters now need to seriously have a go at the authorities, and say enough is enough. Petition needed, or clubs need to just down tools, and refuse to play.

Teams will definitely learn to exploit this rule. Thankfully we have a manager is probably already working on getting his players to win penalties for handballs in the box. Still an unfair rule though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow just need to aim at a players arm, instead of shooting. Guaranteed penalty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So yesterday you were advocating using the new penalty rule as a way to gain penalties but as soon as the same rule is used to award a penalty against Spurs you're 'done with the modern game of football'.

FFS Sandy you cannot blame the rule you wanted to use to your advantage for today's result. Your team couldn't hit a barn door from 3 feet away let alone an opposition player's arm.

You should have scored more goals from open play, that's the way you win games, not hoping for a dodgy penalty.

Just sour grapes from the OP. All he has to do is stop watching and then he won't have to write self pittying posts.

Thank you. Although that doesn't provide a direct quote, I am happy to accept that it exists.

Interesting that such leeway has been stared but didn't make its way into the laws.

Likewise I’m happy to admit I can’t find anything properly official.

That article is an opinion piece by the Independent. The aforementioned invisible rule Bitter Billy posted is not actually in the law. The only place I've ever seen that is from the opinion piece you posted.

Sandy,
First of all, it goes 1 2 3 4 not 1 2 4 3.

On a more serious note:
(1) The new "hand ball" rule has been imposed unilaterally and the referees MUST apply the rule as defined! Spurs had plenty of chances to put the game away but didn't do it. It is the rule that sucks not the officials who must apply the rule.

(2) Steve Bruce showed a lot of class after the game in saying he felt badly for Spurs. On the the other hand, Jose showed a total lack of class by heading to the dressing room when the penalty was awarded. His childish antic showed a total lack of respect for the Newcastle manager and coaches. Spurs biggest problem now will be a potential long absence of Son in the line-up.

Grow up Jose!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nay the officials need to grow some and say play on when it looks like it is accidental. They are cowards hiding behind the rule, because they aint got the bottle to go against it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is nonsense.

The Referee must apply the rules of the game.

It's the rule that needs changed, the referee's are just applying the rules the way they are written. As sickening as it may be, the referee was employing the current rules of the game, therefore the ref gave the right decision.

It's a FIFA rule and has feck all to do with bottle.

Of course they don't, because if they went against it then they'd be dropped from reffing in the PL, same as how if I don't follow the rules at work I get a disciplinary or get sacked.

The rule is the issue, not the refs' application of it.
