My biggest concern with Ole

Ole is a nice guy and did well to get 3rd, but I do fear that if we don't start making our financial advantages count soon, we could face a very long time outside the title race.

Whatever side of the fence you are on re Oles signings so far, it cannot be argued that they are good enough to turn us into title winners within a season or 2., which should be the aim for a club the size of United.

Whatever way you cut it, we need to be better at identifying quality players, better at coaching them to their full potential and better at getting the best out of them on the pitch. We have neither the time, and more importantly, the money to continue as we have been.

1 star it, call me a wum, filter me, I dont care. You know I'm right.

OP. I.see you've added the same post to a couple of others as a comment.
Were you so proud of it we should read it more than once?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I think its a good point.

We need to get it right before our finances are depleted
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Luckily we have part of the equation right. It's beyond belief you can't see the other part is not up to the job. Ed and Matt aren't good enough.
We both know I'm right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Aren't good enough how though. Be specific. What can't / dont they do?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the point? It's been done numerous times already. You don't listen or agree. Or more realistically you are a wum that gets attention by repeatedly backing them. It's been demonstrated in just the last few days how you will completely contradict yourself to back Ed/denigrate Ole.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It hasn't been done at all. And il tell you why.

You or I have no idea whatsoever what goes into making a deal happen, or how good or bad Woodward / Judge are at this.

What we do know is that we have spent more than most on lots of players for our managers post SAF, and that its the quality of the players targeted by the managers that has been the issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Recruitment has been poor. No doubt about that. But we have also had our pants taken down at the negotiating table. Which is to be expected when the plank signing the cheques boasts in the media about how much money the club can afford to spend on players. I wonder how many tens of millions that stupid boast has cost us over the years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Come on. it was hardly a secret before that that United were minted was it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course not. But we didn't have someone openly boasting about it to feed his own ego because he was so pleased with the commercial deals he'd done. It was an amateur move and Ed and Co have been treated as amateurs ever since. He's recognised his mistake now, but it's too late.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It changed nothing.. People have allways fleeced us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rubbish. The last time we broke the world record for a defender we got Rio Ferdinand. This time we got Maguire. A third rate CB. Try and dress it up however you want. Ed and Co got royally bummed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We paid a fortune for Rio. I fail to see how that should dictate what we pay for.Maguire 18 years later
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not that hard a point to understand. I even gave you the answer. Rio was a top CB. Maguire is third tier. Not even close to Rio. If you are going to break the world record for a CB it should for one of the best in the world. The fact Ed was prepared to write a cheque for £80m for Maguire just shows how clueless he is about football matters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah. Dont let the fact we were the best about back then and had SAF at the helm escape you.

You are gonna miss your entertainment column deadline
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh so back then SAF did the transfer negotiations? And how does being the best mean you pay less in transfers?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who said that?

The more desirable a club, the more enthisiastic / insistent the player can be re the move happening. Plus SAF would have been able to identify and attract alternatives far easier than Ole can.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I see. If the player really rally wants to join then the selling club will accept a lower fee. Makes perfect sense now. Maybe you should impart your wisdom on Ed you utter weapon?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Players might forgo a bonus due, or a percentage of any fee, or outstanding wages, or refuse to sign a new deal.

You better get that page 3 joke in by midnight or yoil miss the morning edition
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And how does that impact on the fact that Ed spunked 80m on a third rate CB?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You tell me. It was you who compared the signing of Maguire with a deal from 18 years ago made in complely different circumstances to those of the club now
----------------------------------------------------------------------

🤦‍♂️

RDD, you are hopeless.

The comparison is (one again) simple. Both deals were world record fees for centre backs. With Rio we got a great player at a fair price. With Maguire we got a third rate centre back at what would be a fair price for a world class one. Ed got his pants pulled down. Goodnight.

OK we will just compare the deal to VVD then if that makes you feel better. Two clubs in desperate need of a top CB. One paid 75m and got VVD. The other paid 80m and got Maguire.

Oh so back then SAF did the transfer negotiations? And how does being the best mean you pay less in transfers?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who said that?

The more desirable a club, the more enthisiastic / insistent the player can be re the move happening. Plus SAF would have been able to identify and attract alternatives far easier than Ole can.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I see. If the player really rally wants to join then the selling club will accept a lower fee. Makes perfect sense now. Maybe you should impart your wisdom on Ed you utter weapon?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Players might forgo a bonus due, or a percentage of any fee, or outstanding wages, or refuse to sign a new deal.

You better get that page 3 joke in by midnight or yoil miss the morning edition
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And how does that impact on the fact that Ed spunked 80m on a third rate CB?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You tell me. It was you who compared the signing of Maguire with a deal from 18 years ago made in complely different circumstances to those of the club now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The comparison is (one again) simple. Both deals were world record fees for centre backs. With Rio we got a great player at a fair price. With Maguire we got a third rate centre back at what would be a fair price for a world class one. Ed got his pants pulled down. Goodnight.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Comparing 2 deals, 18 years apart made in completely different circumstances is just ridiculous.

Hope you make the deadline.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK we will just compare the deal to VVD then if that makes you feel better. Two clubs in desperate need of a top CB. One paid 75m and got VVD. The other paid 80m and got Maguire.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How much would you have paid / Who would you jave signed instead?
