The Mentality

I watched the game last night and can't speak highly enough of how well Arsenal played, given the resources Arteta has available. In recent years, we've seen an Arsenal side (with a lot of these players) roll over at Anfield and be out of the game in 20 minutes. Last night, for the first time in a while, I saw Arsenal with a game plan and defensive organisation. You managed to weather the early storm, get a deserved goal and then stay in the game for a long period. These are things I haven't seen from Arsenal in big away games for years.

I was impressed with how Arsenal executed their counter attacks time and time again too. In my opinion, Arteta knew how to go about beating Liverpool tactically but unfortunately moments of bad luck let him down. I won't talk about the bad refereeing decisions, but everyone knows they went against Arsenal last night.

Arteta really does look like a fantastic manager who has flexibility in his changes and tactics. He introduced Ceballos in the second half who started to run the game, great passes in behind and perhaps you were a top striker short of getting a result. It is also refreshing to see an Arsenal side look competent on and off the ball, tracking runners etc. You can tell the squad are entirely behind Mikel and believe in him.

My opinion is that if Arsenal do back Arteta (I know they probably won't) then they'll have a serious team again. The reality is, though, that he will probably overachieve with you guys in the next season or two before leaving for City or perhaps even Barcelona.

You guys were really unlucky last night and in more ways than one. You have to really question what is going on in the game when blatant red cards aren't given. Not to mention two handballs that lead to directly to goals. I see the Liverpool fans have been going into pandemonium over the result though. Probably still wounded that Arsenal cost them the 100 point record last year and then beat them in a cup final this season too!!

** Still a cracking team. Just not up to cashing the brag cheques you lot are writing. Not yet anyway.

Respect for the champions please 👍

Your club already has my respect due to it's history. Also for it's CL and WL wins. But you don't get the PL champions respect, until you've won the title in a season proper. You haven't earned it

Fully agree with the OP. Good article.

We knew that Liverpool is the better side. In recent years they brushed us aside and often played a training game with Arsenal.

It was obvious that we earned a bit more respect from Kloppo. He had his team at his best possible level especially in the first half. That was Liverpool's best game of football in recent weeks. Physicality and Intensity it all was there.

Arsenal unfortunately hadnt their players at the required level. Too many players didnt turn up and you can't do that at Anfield. You need everyone committed and switched on.

Arteta said recently that if you dont invest the gap between you and the other top teams getting wider. Liverpool is the benchmark and we saw how good they can be. We managed to stay in the game almost the whole game. Think we going in the right direction. That is also obvious. If we are doing the right things in the transfer window we are back. Not competing about the title but surely top 4 isnt out of reach.

I ws reading a review of the game which focused on Klopps tactics to stop us playing the game Arteta wanted. It was saying they stopped us doing what we wanted time and time again. The fact we only had 1 shot shows how effective they were at it and that shot came from a bad error. They had us in their pocket last night and the tactical advantage we hadin the last two games has been overcome.

I thought yous were swept aside quite comprehensively personally. Yous stayed in the game as yous didnt play anywhere near as open as you have in the past at anfield but ultimately you lost the game by the same scoreline you lost by last season.

As I said last night there is no reason why you cant fight for the top 4 spaces but yous are still outsiders for me. Certainly a more organised side yes but offered absolutely nothing as an attacking force which maybe says more about our quality. I wouldnt expect yous to play that conservatively against anyone else except maybe city away which I have to say is to your detriment as you have the players up top to cause teams (including ourselves) some problems if you had just a little bit more belief.
