Remember the days when Wenger used to get blamed for our transfer dealings, cheapskate tactics and lack of activity as well as selling our best players.... yeah think we may need to revist that

Like ive said all along, our board and owner are 100% to blame for our decline. All Wenger did was keep us above where we should be for over 20 years and then failed in his last 2 (whilst winning a cup)

Wenger def cops some of the blame , spending 70 mill on mustafi and xhaka is hardly kroenkes fault is it. He spent a lot of average in his later yrs.

Wenger's blame lays more in stubborness, tactical stagnancy and trusting the wrong individuals. Our transfers in have been a direct result of a higher up refusal to pony up the necessary transfer fees. The situation with this pair is a perfect example. Aouar alone could end up going for the total 85 in a normal season, the way football is. The two players at that price, by most if not all accounts, it's a straight up steal. But no our club STILL refuses to pay that fee.

We get second rate players in for the simple reason that the owner is not (or very rarely) willing to pay first rate player transfer fees. For our managers it's always...

"I need X amount to get player A and B. Found the top quality signings and they'll come, just need the fee."

"Well you can have 1/2 that to sign a free veteran and promising unknown instead. Or you can a twilight star who's fee reflects his age. Actually take this fallen from grace star, rotting on the bench at... instead, his fee is high enough to shut fans up but well below market rate for someone as good as he used to be"

Time and again it's "Make do with way less money than you need.". You can't blame the managers for that, that's the owner. When it comes to transfers, it's him that is the main problem. Everything else transfer related, is a bi-product of his not spending enough. He is far too used to getting all or most of his best players for free in annual draft.

Honestly, at a time where Utd and Chelsea have average to poor managers, this is a really good opportunity to put us back in the top 4. If we spend a decent amount on these two (who represent good value), it should make more sense in the long run too.

If we don't get top 4 while Ole and Frank are still at their respective clubs, it's going to be a longer and more costly process to get back in the CL

We will get at least one; more likely Aouar. Anything between €42-€45 will clinch Aouar.
FR has tweeted that Torreira’s agent is in the Spanish capital to negotiate with Atlético. Partey deal not dead in the water yet.

I didn't say he's world class, but we have a worse squad than either of you and look about your level now.

If we can improve the squad then we should be able to get top 4.

If we wait, Utd might replace Ole with a competent manager and Chelsea might start to gel or get a good manager of their own, then we're starting from a much harder position.

Chelsea had the same points as Southampton in that period (a whopping 1 more than Arsenal) with a better squad that wasn't in total disarray half way through the season. Arteta also won a cup, which you may or may not have noticed.

Let's look at Lampard's record then:
- Took Derby from 6th to... 6th (with one less point)
- Took Chelsea from 3rd to... 4th (with 6 less points)

And btw the above doesn't mean he's not a good manager, or going to be one. Judging a coach on league points over a short period means very little without context though.

I don't think you quite realise how bad a state the whole club was in when Arteta took over. Other coaches like Klopp are already talking about what a good manager he is.

Not quite right. Wenger needed David Dein, once he went Wenger was never quite the same.

We need a decent upgrade on Xhaka. I think that would be Partey.
