Sack Pep!

Sensationalist headline of course, but I wonder at what point Pep’s job is at risk. Of course now it’s not the time (if ever). But I wonder at what point the rank failures in the CL might get the City bigwigs feeling maybe he ain’t the guy. Which sounds silly as he’s a bonafide world class manager. But perhaps too clever for his own good to take City to the CL title.

I get the feeling the respect for him is so huge he might be allowed to walk away on his own terms no matter how bad this season goes. I say ‘bad’ but even coming second and not winning the CL could be considered bad in context.

Has he done a great job at City? Or just a very good one with a glaring omission in the ‘big eared trophy’ category?

A lovely sunny early autumn day for me. Spent two hours down the bay with the dog after the Everton game.

------------------------

I saw in the Everton game. Nothing like a bit of grim torrential rain to drive home a message about a good decision made 😂

------------------------

I would really like to be anywhere else in the world right now

Would you have rather been in the pouring rain in Paisley shopping for a new Sofa with the other half all day?

If it isn't my other half, I think I'll take that trade.

His record after 5 competitive games this season with a decimated squad is W3 D1 L1.

Yes he should be sacked.

No one is saying he should be sacked now. Of course he has plenty of credit in the bank. The article was more about at what point do the city bigwigs feel that he’s taken City as far as he can. By the end of this season if he’s failed to win the league or the CL, would that mean he’s failed? And would the board be looking to bring in a guy to win the CL?

I think given all the work they put in to get Pep there, it’s unlikely they’ll get rid and bring in someone to win the CL.

It’s also a difficult task bringing in someone to win the CL, whatever club you’re at. Many clubs have brought in managers to win the CL and been unable to do it. Interestingly, Pep has been one such manager.

I don't think there's any real pressure on Pep (or Ole) considering the lack of a pre-season break from our respective owners.

Liverpool had the longest pre-season of all the top clubs and crashed out of the League Cup at the 2nd hurdle yet he's the toast of the media.

Unless they get a rut of continuous poor results that doesn't look like changing then they aren't going to sack him this season. I would say he could go trophyless and maybe finish top 6 and would still keep his job, albeit he would have to start delivering the following season.

Leicester City managed no shots on goal today. How Pep made them look so good is amazing. Even Leeds were the far better team and even expected goals showed it so Pep is starting to look out of ideas at Man City as teams have found his teams system out. They no longer are a side teams get scared by.

How many 'expected goals' did City have with no recognised strikers available?

Man City had 1.42 and Leeds United had 2.57.

Amazing both Man Utd and Man City are near the bottom on expected points when they were the top 2 far clear of everyone else after 4 league games and that was also the case after 3 games.

I mean after 4 league games and 3 league games last season.

Decimated?

Aguero injured = decimated?
