Look away
GK - Adrian = 0, the horrendous mistake set the tone. He really is a poor backup but he is all we have now for 6 weeks.
RB - Trent = -1, when we are bad it is usually on Trents side and he had a mare yesterday
CB - Gomez = -2, the worst player on the pitch. He has been poor since lockdwon but yesterday was rock bottom
CB - VVD = 2, didn't really make any mistake but where is the leadership when you are badly exposed at the back?
LB - Robbo = 4, mainly for his work going forward and was unlucky first half
RMF - Keita = 2, decent touches every now and then but it was his side of the pitch which was badly exposed and he didn't do much to help.
CMF - Fab = 1, poor midfield cover and not much better at CB later
LMF - Wij = 3, did he even play? Pressing was dreadful from him.
RF - Salah = 5, 2 goals and was a threat but 5 is the max in a drubbing.
LF - Jota = 4, good first half and was a threat but faded 2nd half
CF - Firmino = 1, got the assist but not only does he not look like scoring but his first touch was like Lukaku last night
Sub:
Mini = 0, made no impact
Jones = 0, made no impact
Milner = 3, just for that tackle which saved it being 8

As for Gomez, that's got to be the end of his stint at the club. Klopp has already showed he doesnt really trust him. Fabhino is wasted in the back but that would allow Thiago to come in. For now, I'd give Matip a go. Dont really remember him letting the side down. I know he lacks some pace but he reads the game well and plus better threat in the air
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It won't be the end for Gomez and nor should it be. He's a talented young defender who has had a couple of bad games. That's it.
Does he need to work hard to improve, hell yeah. Does he need more competition, absolutely (although I think Matip provides good competition)
Not entirely sure what makes you think Klopp doesn't trust him. He's played him very regularly over the last 3 years and despite letting Lovren leave we don't appear to be searching for a new CB. To me that doesn't shout out a lack of trust in the players he has, quite the opposite. You can see the players that Klopp doesn't trust, the likes of Sakho, Clyne, Shaqiri - if you're not trusted then you rarely play. Gomez plays.

I know that Trent is excellent going forwards, but every time I watch him play, he leaves so much space down the right side. Yesterday he kept getting wandering over to the middle of the pitch in front of his CBs whilst Liverpool had the ball. As soon as the ball got turned over there was an acre of space in behind him. He got caught out for Grealish's goal and I thought he'd learn from it. A few minutes later and he got caught out doing exactly the same thing again. Someone needs to get hold of him and give him some proper defensive coaching, or he needs pushing further up the pitch. As after yesterday's showing, PL managers across the country will be targeting him as the weak link in LFC's defence.
AWB wasn't much better for us yesterday to be fair.

Tbh Elvis, clubs have been trying to target the space in behind both our FBs for a couple of years now (moreso RB admittedly). When the team is playing well then the CMs cover or the CB steps across and DCM drops. Yesterday was just an absolute shambles though, for all sorts of reasons but mostly (as you pointed out) for organisation.

I don't think it's that Klopp doesn't trust Gomez, but the CB position he fills is probably the one starting position you look at right now and thinks "that needs strengthening".
Gomez lacks concentration and tbh, just general defensive ability. People are banging on at Trent who has played 100+ games for the club for allowing his man inside, Gomez is in a similar position when he just allowed Watkins inside for Villa's 2nd yesterday. He's got the right footed CF on his left side wanting to come inside, just show him the outside on his left foot. Barkley had a chance in the first half, Van Djik kept him on his left foot, showed him away from goal and Barkley dragged his shot wide. That's the difference. Liverpool need a more reliable defender that can actually defend. Gomez can honestly be a liability at times.

Pretty sure that until the title was wrapped up last season, we'd never lost a EPL game Gomez started at CB. Obviously we have now but you simply don't have that type of record, with the number of games he's played, if the player is a liability.
I really don't believe he lacks defensive ability either. He's has the physical attributes (strong and quick) and he has been a very technically sound tackler (less so of late admittedly).
His positioning/concentration (2 sides of the same coin imo) has been found wanting over the back end of 19/20 and beginning of the season. And I also agree that his position is the most under threat or has the greatest potential to improve.
I think Matip will come in after the break and Gomez will need to work hard on the training ground to eradicate the weaknesses in his game. He'll come again though, I'm confident of that.

Adrian was dire for at least 4 gls. 2 of the deflections Ali saves. Plus the free kick watch him let the ball go when its crossed into the 6 yard box. Outside of that he unnerves the whole team and is rooted to his line killing our high line

I don't think that your team helped him. Passing it back to the keeper from a throw in when you are near the half way line is a bit daft. Especially when it is your reserve keeper and early in the match. His team mates should have helped him settle into the game and not put any undue pressure on him.

Yeah we can't just hang Adrian out dry and think that is the solution. We have same issues against Leeds where once against TAA and Gomez were culprits and we had Alisson in goals.
