Drubbings

At 33 years old I have seen a few drubbings over the years. 2 however stick out like a sore thumb.

Last nights and the 6-1 at stoke. Which was worse?

For me last night was the worst result in my lifetime. That team against stoke were at best mediocre and the mentality was poor given it was the last game of the season with us having nothing to play for.

This current team are comfortably the best liverpool team of my lifetime and had the opportunity to really put the squeeze on city by opening up a gap so early on.

Still cant quite get my head around it to be honest.

Everyone needs to chill out it was a one off and that's it.

3 fluked deflections, one brainfart from a second string keeper and a blatant penalty denied to Salah, this could very easily have been a completely different result.

Villa did well, they got their tactics spot on and it's not their fault that we 'lost the plot' last night, they can only play what's in front of them.

But that doesn't suddenly mean we aren't the best team around at the moment, there isn't a side in history that never lost a game badly at some stage.

Agree with this. I'd like Hendo back though, Thiago too.

The reality is that peopel ought to be worried. Any team can lose but there was no intensity, no desire and heads dropped. It was like watching us with karius behind lovren.

The main issue is nobody managed to just drop in and keep it at 4. It wasn't hard, just to show their players to the outside away form goal and maybe just drop off 5 yards to remove the tactic that dean smith invented.

It was a bad day at the office but trying to ignore it won't make it so. Unfortunately there are no games coming up due to internationals.

Like we have to give dean smith credit here. he had his men stand in their own half and run to diagonal balls and it totally destroyed our team.

they should not have been able to get out of their half but they could float long ball after long ball under zero pressure.

This wasn't anything Smith invented. We have set up in a high line like that for 12 months and it doesn't take a tactical genius to try and work out how to break it. Loads of teams have tried it. The issue isn't the line. The issue is that everything that makes that high line work wasn't implemented.

Ah come on. give him the slightest credit given arteta and lampard couldn't do it.

as for it doesn't take a tactical genius, not body said he was, just give them the SLIGHTEST bit of credit.

Was a really weird freak result.

Was the sort of freak result I could understand if the Liverpool team that won the title was the super gegen one Klopp had before he changed the makeup of the team. It shows how reliant you are on Allison & VVD, take both out/both have end games, etc... all bets are off.

In certain respects I liken this Liverpool team to ours that won the title in the mid-noughties with Mourinho. But even removing Cech, Terry & Robben for a game, it's a cold day in hell before that team was losing a game 7-2... just never happening.

Tennis scores are the new norm. I think it's down to the empty stadiums, where players, particularly when it is going wrong, just seem to totally lose their she1t.

Like you say, a freak result. We've played plenty of games with Adrian and won the vast majority.
