The next gen

So while we all sit here and fight over first team signings one thing which has actually been pretty good has been the activity for the next generation

McNeil
Fernandez
Garnacho
Kambwala
Traore
Vitek

Possibly pellistri

I mean that’s over 50m spent and while yes they’re young and there’s no guarantees most of those names had serious interest in them and it only takes a couple to live up to the hype to really reinvigorate the first XI

With the youth prospects we are already familiar with the future isn’t so bad after all

Yes, I'm thinking the same thing, at least one part of the project is working. Some must surely come through, and if we are luck have a class of 22.

Seems we've focused more on signing players for the next manager instead of the current one. Looks like Ed doesn't have much faith in Ole.

Just as well Poch is good with younger players

Aren’t these signings more to do with Butt than Ed? Would explain why they seem very sensible, although it’s always hard to know how these kids will develop.

Ed will sign off ALL deals

quick question: who was the last top-class (or even decent) foreign player to come through our academy?

i ask because it seems that, generally, all the best academy products have been local(ish) lads, as are our two top academy players now.

januzaj i guess, and before that pogba (!) so hopefully this new intake can bear more fruit than over the past 10-15 years.

guess rossi was a similar period...i know that they have revamped the academy over recent years, and obviously these things take time to produce, but i can't personally get wildly excited about these signings given our historic failure to produce many foreign gems.

Part of the reason for that is that we haven’t had many foreign players in the Academy.

I’d say that the ratio until very recently has been something like 75% Brits/Irish to 25% other.
