SO IT’S CHRIS HUGHTON

Can’t be more pleased with this appointment - it was surely the best any of us could have hoped for - Eddie Howe, I imagine, was never a serious contender

But with Chris Hughton, we have someone who’s proven it at this level...TWICE

I feel more positive about this appointment than I have with many of the previous ones - I seriously think this guy could be a real gem if given the time and support from the entire Club...the owner especially

Some folk think he has negative tactics, but when he took Brighton up a few seasons back they score in excess of 89 goals... 96 at Newcastle - that doesn’t strike me as someone who’s overly defensive minded

There’s still a long way to go, and it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with this squad and gets them playing - I’m not saying I’m expecting miracles, but if he can drill into this team the same mentality he got with his Brighton squad, then it’ll be a good season - I think we could become a real force

I remember the 93/94 season, we were, at the end of October, 4th from bottom, then after a win at WBA, we went in an incredible run that took us to Automatic Promotion...of course we had owd Stanley back then

As for now, let’s get behind the new manager, and the players, and see where it takes us

Bit harsh to say he was that bad, he was undefeated for the first 12 games. Brought in some if the best players we have seen at the club in 25 years. When you look more closely the form dipped away when likes of Reid, Vaughan and the CB got injured.

Montanier was the worst, awful squad of players and dreadful football. I saw an interview with Matt Mills over lockdown he confirmed it was the worst organised pre-season he had been part off.

We really have suffered from over reliance on star players over the years. Andy Reid was a big one, of he played there was a good chance we’d win but without him we had no creativity. David Vaughan was another sick note but when fit he pulled everything together. Jack Hobbs for a season looked like a top CB but without him we shipped goals. Cohen was another. I felt last season Sow was that type of player but he’s not been great so far this season.

Really hope we sign Knockeart. Imagine him, Lolley and Freeman behind Grabban!

Yes Caniggia, but I think Hughton might want to play 4-4-2; it was/is his preferred formation. We have two proven goalscorers and I think we need to base the team on them.

I would play Lolley (or Mighten) and Ameobi (or Knockaert) wide. Arter and Freeman central. and whatever four he fancies at the back.

I’m not sure Freeman can do a pure CM job in a 4-4-2. Feels a bit lightweight and Arter isn’t going to sit like Colback does. Would be very attacking and positive but can’t see it. If it’s 2 up front then maybe we’ll see 3 at back. Or if he does play 442 then I think it might be Colback and Arter/Sow (or one of the many DMs we have!).

I wonder if Carvalho would have had a look in under Hughton, he has all the potential, it just needs unlocking. Speaking of players who really influenced games, Paul McKenna under Billy and Lansbury on his day was brilliant. To play two upfront we will definitely need width, and the one thing we have missed under Sabri, creativity.

Sat night wiv no league games is soooo boring. Among Hughton's first comments was "a club ready to go up". Well does he know they're in the bottom three wiv no points ? Presumably the only way to go is up !! Nice guy but I don't fink he'll make any difference, there's something not right at Forest.

I'd definitely like to see how we would play in a 4-4-2

I think Hughton could go with something like that, but in an interview I heard or read his comments about the spine of the team made me think he might start with Dawson for an experienced Championship spine of Samba - Dawson - Arter - Grabban.

You're taking the glass half empty view, drummer boy. This week we are mostly glass half full - we are only seven points off the playoffs.

But you are right - there are troubles behind the scenes, but one of our senior officials has also left the club this week after being arrested in France on very serious charges.

I am seriously considering putting £100 on Forest going up this season: 16/1 at present - and I feel really hopeful and excited at the prospect of what Hughton could do with this squad of players
