Captaincy

The footage that emerged yesterday showing Rashford and Maguire arguing about the red card, with Rashford asking for Lamela to be sent off and Maguire siding with the referee, should be enough to strip Maguire of captaincy. No wonder he quarreled with Bruno at half time. I'm afraid Maguire has lost his teammates' respect. I'd give the captaincy to Mata immediately and appoint Bruno assistant captain.

We lack leaders all over the pitch, Maguire and Bruno being the best of the lot for me.

Who else are you gonna pick? Rashford can’t be bothered to do his bit defensively and the rest and shrinking violets.

What do people expect Maguire to have done in this situation? He was the captain, he asked the question, the ref told him it was checked by VAR and not violent... meanwhile the game is restarted and continues. He wasn't agreeing with the decision necessarily, he was accepting it and moving on.

As he should have done.

Still baffles me that decision.

Is there a rule in the book that says you can elbow people's neck and chin without getting a booking and as soon as somebody strokes your chin, the offender will get the red card, and you'll get away with it as long as you roll around like a little cnt?

What were the referees watching? What is the point in VAR?

The real sending off offence was the Shaw one. How did he stay on the pitch? Maybe the referee felt sorry for us being 6-1 down (I think that was the score at the time). Or maybe the referee went in at half time and saw that he should possibly have sent off Lamela too and evened up the score in his mind with Shaw.

Most Leicester fans I know raved about Maguire when he was there. As soon as they sold him he was “crap”

Agreed. I've heard people cite retaliation as a reason. Nonsense, this isn't rugby and there is no mention of retaliation in the footballing rulebook. And if it's for violent conduct, which action was more violent, Lamela's or Martial's non forceful push to the face? It was just a poor decision, with no consistency applied.

Sadly, VAR pussied out of making even one call all weekend, presumably due to all the criticism that had come from previous calls

I read an interview many years ago with Dion Dublin who was saying as captain he'd agree with the ref when the decision was already made (because he's never going to change his mind) and try to get in his ear when the ref was considering decisions.

Influence when you can and accept when you can't. Sounded like a pretty smart approach to me.

And we did immediately concede a third goal, so you could argue that Maguire was absolutely correct to tell his teammate to get on with it. The loss of concentration probably impacted on that particular goal

He should have never been captain in the first place.sjould have gone to Matic or Rashford at the time. Shame Pogba hasn't shown the leadership in the United shirt as he has done in the French one, otherwise he would have been the right candidate.

Neither Matic or Rashford are captains. In fact I can't think of a captain we have in the squad. Only really Bruno who appears to be talking and leading by example.
I watched the Spurs documentary where he said they were too nice any they needed to be baaaaastards. I would say the same applies to us. Too many times I see the wrong decision go against us and we pathetically accept it. We should have been right in at the ref and then targetting Lamela in my view.

Think that's football in general now. I look at this Chelsea team and don't see any horrible bar stewards and i bloody miss that horrible nasty know how streak!
