Number 9

With the search stalling for a number 9 would it be really worth just signing someone just for the sake of getting a body in the door

With Charlie Austin not wanting to leave has come as a relief to me as even if he’d be busting a gut to get here I was unsure if I’d want him. He’s not exactly prolific these days, I don’t know how many he scored, in open play, for an attacking side last season but it wasn’t many.
Would we really want a player on very high wages whose best days are behind him that doesn’t really want to be here?

Alternatively theres the free agent or loan market but for me unless that player is match fit do we really need one? Unless he’s proven to be a lot better than Waghorn

Please lets not dwell on Chris Martin, I was ok with him leaving and I would have been ok with him staying but I don’t think he would have been the answer even though he would definitely have improved our team in the very short term

The much under-rated Conor Sammon. He worked his butt off for the team and people who judged a number 9 by his goal output alone were quick to dismiss his positive contributions.
I'm not saying he was John O'Hare just a decent footballer at this level.
I've always liked a tryer and Conor was definitely that. If only he could find the net, he had everything else.

Dear Lord! At last, thank you

Swindlehurst was pretty decent. Good partnership with Biley I think?

I watch the U23's & U 18's on a regular basis. The U 18's have a Polish striker called Bartosz Cybulski. He's just been selected for the Polish U19 squad. He's 6'5" and TBH looks a bit ungainly ATM but I think he's scored 5 goals since September. Clearly not the finished article but defenders seem to find him a real handful. Maybe worth keeping an eye on.....

Thinking of "Big" No. 9's, how about : Roger Davies, Ian Ormondroyd, Trevor Christie, Nathan (Duke) Ellington, Kevin Francis (he was like a Basket ball player)...

Cybulski, like Hector-Ingram, has some potential but doesn’t look ready yet for the first team. There seems to be a chance that Villa might be signing Josh King and that might free up Keinan Davis. I think we’ve seen with Whittaker that strength is needed as well as ability to be truly effective and Davis certainly has that. Rooney was a player who had that physicality from an early age but for others it takes time. Calvert-Lewis used to look like a bit of a will o’ the wisp but now he looks the full package as a centre forward.

Meanwhile,
'19 year old Derby County midfielder, Jason Knight, has been called up to the Ireland senior squad for the first time.'

The Derby Academy graduate has been promoted from the u21 squad to the senior squad for the UEFA Nations League match against Finland.

Well done Jason 👏🐏🇮🇪

There is a rumour that the dirties want one of our boys, Louis Sibley. If they offered a Seth boggling amount maybe, but I hope he stays with us or goes to a decent club.

Have we bought a Martin replacement yet?

Big rumour the Wilson loan is back on (assuming Sibley leaves)?

Begs the question has he had his head turned as he's not exactly been in the best of form lately?
