Donny Boy

What do you make of him so far? Hasn't been used much at all. I think he's only started 1 game so far.

From his limited game time I think he is an intelligent pass and move player who has a great one touch game and looks better far up the field. But I am not sure with our slow build up style of play how effective he would turn out to be. He seems to be at the same wavelength as that of Bruno, Mata etc but since we have Pogba, Rashford, Martial who like to hog on to the ball needlessly without passing and moving I am sceptical how effective VDB will turn out.

He would be bomb for a team like City.

My concern is that Ole seems to have these preconceived ideas about players he would like to have and VDB doesn't seem to be in his plan. Not sure if we see the best of him while Ole is in charge.

I fear his Ole's preconceived idea is that VDB should play as a #10.

I dont think that position suits him that much, I think he should be playing slightly deeper like Pogba is currently. Time will tell.

Couldn't disagree with this more

I'd like to see him able to link up with Mata & Bruno near the opposition's box. He's shown he can do the business against the top teams in Europe in the latter stages of the CL.

The problem is this is never going to happen.

I don't really have a problem with the signing of Van de Beek because he's a good intelligent player and I'm sure in time he'll prove to be a good signing but he's coming into a club who are a lot more individualistic in what they do on the pitch compared to Ajax where everything was much more fluid, in sync and less disjointed.

Where does he start in the ideal Utd lineup?

Seemed a bit bonkers to me to spend £40m on a player who ideally wants to play where Fernandes plays and where Pogba would also want to play.

All signs seem to show we have a very good player on our hands.

The fear is that his best attributes won't be utilised the way we play

If we are going to sit back, sit back and hit on the break then players with skill sets like him can't show their full range which, like Mata, is quick intelligent play to move the ball in tight spaces, thereby creating space and chances

We barely get out of our own half

I think the complete opposite. He seems like an Ole signing to me

Oh I agree fully. Like you say, Ajax's general team play and short, quick passing isn't something we're especially good at/Ole's approach generally. But in Mata's defence, he does try and play like that regardless and I think the more you have those kinds of players on the pitch, the more we're likely to see Beekers' skillset utilised, even if only in moments here and there.

Can’t help but agree. Great to have that kind of competition in a team and squad that’s strong everywhere but ours isn’t. Maybe he can play on the right as Mata has done in the past; I don’t know.

Think hes a talent , needs to be in a good set up and tried in lesser games, so he gains an understanding of the prem and his mf partners, could see him being thrown in as a starter in a huge game and absolutely bombing
