On Monday 19th Wolves travel to West Yorkshire to take on Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

Leeds have enjoyed a positive start to their first Premier League campaign since 2003/04, at the end of which, they were relegated to the Championship along with Wolves.
Wins against Fulham and Sheffield United, a narrow loss to Liverpool and a draw with Manchester City finds them in 8th place in the table with a goal difference of +1 having scored 9 goals in those 4 games.

Wolves won 2 and lost 2 of their opening 4 games, coincidentally, taking 6 points from the same two teams as Leeds whilst keeping 2 clean sheets. Their heaviest Premier League defeat of all time – a 4-0 loss to West Ham – has resulted in a position of 13th place in the table with a goal difference of -3.

During the summer transfer window Leeds were one of the league’s big spenders with a net outlay of £84.5m whilst bringing in a whopping 12 new players, 11 on permanent deals and 1 on loan.
By contrast, Wolves spent £83.6m and brought in 7 new faces, 5 on permanent deals and 2 on loan with options to buy. At the same, time shrewd selling of players resulted in a net spend of only £7.6m and almost balanced the books.

Whilst Wolves have 16 players away on international duty, Nuno Espirito Santo will have 2 weeks on the training ground to introduce his new young and hungry players to his coaching methods and the revised system that he is trying to implement.

Two ambitious clubs each with a confident and competent manager and both with a pool of hugely talented players should make for an entertaining game.
The last time the two sides met was in the Championship, in the 2017/18 season. Wolves won home and away, 4-1 at Molineux and 3-0 at Elland Road, but that was then and this is now. Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds are a very different team now and with so many player changes to both sides, predicting the result of this game is not easy.

Bruno Jordao scored a brilliant goal for Familicao in Portugal today. Picked it upon the halfway line, dribbled past two defenders and passed it into the net. Worth trying to find the video online

Boly - Coady - Saiss
Semedo - Neves - Donk - Marcal
Podence - Jimenez - Neto

0-0 at 76 minutes, Traore replaces Podence, 0-1 (Jimenez) on 83, Neto replaced by Moutinho on 85, Costa equalises on 90 +3. You know the formula.

BBC:

"Wolves are close to agreeing a new long-term contract with winger Adama Traore.

Traore has made rapid progress under manager Nuno Espirito Santo since joining Wolves from Middlesbrough in a then record £18m deal in 2018.

The 24-year-old made his debut for Spain earlier this month and was linked with Liverpool during the summer in addition to a return to former club Barcelona.

However, after Nuno and star striker Raul Jimenez both signed new deals this summer, Wolves are hopeful talks with Traore will reach a successful conclusion.

Nuno views Traore as an integral part of his rebuilding plans after successive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League."

By the way - is Halfy still in bed?

Looks we're wearing the popular third shirt tonight before the less popular second shirt gets an outing. Lets hope it makes us play like Portugal. Wonder how our Spanish players feel about wearing their neighbours colours?
