‘Project Big Picture’

World exclusive: Man Utd and Liverpool driving 'Project Big Picture' - football’s biggest shake-up in a generation.

18-team Premier League, increased EFL funding and axing of League Cup among raft of proposals in 'Revitalisation' document seen by Telegraph

Biggest abomination of an idea that I’ve read about, and confirms that these big clubs are using a global pandemic to assert their powers over the smaller clubs. United being involved in this doesn’t surprise me one bit either.

The only good idea from that pile of crap is the scrapping of the EFL cup for teams playing in Europe.

18 team league would be better imo

Should have happened a long time ago.

Fans will still be paying the same or more for less of the same product if they go to 18 teams. No way the clubs pass up on 2x home fixtures of ticket sales.

The big leagues should have a max of 18 clubs in the top flight, probs 16..to keep the quality higher, and allow more match preparation (domestic and European)

American owned clubs pushing for these changes.

They'll probably be demanding that games are played in 22 minute 'quarters' to get in more advertising time.

I think there’s some good suggestions put forward in it, i like the idea of an 18 team league and i like the idea of the 16th place team going into a playoff.

What i don’t like is the 9 teams who get “special voting rights” for longevity in the league. That’s a recipe for disaster.

But a bigger restructuring is needed, football in the uk at lower levels simply isn’t sustainable in its current incarnation.

Some of it is sensible, some of it is ridiculous - this 'project' will be a debate that rages on for a long time I think

This is primarily the brainchild of Liverpool's owners with a whiff of Ed Woodward's involvement too!

Aspects of the proposal look interesting but on the whole it does smack of an attempt to power grab. Concentrating the power to a few clubs, who are obscenely wealthy, must be opposed at all costs for the sake of the game.
