Southgate Vs Grealish

It's clearly personal.

Hates talking about him, always seems irritated.

Would rather be loyal to dross players who can't create anything in midfield.

Despite being the most naturally gifted English midfielder in years especially in unlocking defences cherry boy FA yes man won't admit it.

Southgate's misguided loyalty will come back to haunt him in the end when we inevitably crash out of next years tournament.

The fact he even has slabhead on the pitch is beyond ludicrous.

Southgate is a basic coaching badges manager. He does everything straight from a textbook. He's always going to prefer reliable grafters to players like Grealish, who are more unpredictable and don't fit into any chapter in his textbook

I don’t think that’s true at all. He’s used some very modern techniques, and tactics, look at during the World Cup for example..not sure why he’s not playing grealish, but I imagine it was more about balance in his mind.

During the world cup, 80% of England's goals came from set pieces. He's very much a "keep it tight, work hard and practice set pieces" type manager.

I agree 100% with this.

I could also imagine an England side with someone like Bielsa in charge. Now that is an England side that'd be great to watch

Then we go out to a team that has a player that can pick out a pass and with the likes of the worst defender I can ever remember in slabhead it's surely gonna happen again.

"Despite being the most naturally gifted English midfielder in years"

lets all calm down for a second guys played one year at the top level, and not a european game.
Great player though.

Too many players for England doing a job, very little creativity. Need players who are not afraid to have a go, make something happen. I really expect Grealish to start against Denmark.

I would actually agree with most of you when we're playing Iceland or those teams who don't attack. But we aren't good enough to go toe to toe with Belgium and players like Mount get through a lot of work up and down the pitch. We have to be more mobile in front of the defence.

I think Southgate's problem is that he knows he's going to get asked about Grealish and he's uncomfortable about being put on the spot. It shows.

A more confident manager would say how good Grealish is without necessarily coming to a different play / no-play decision.

I suspect Grealish himself is OK with the decision. He's in the squad and he knows his chance will come.

Me, I'm glad he's on the bench instead of getting knackered / injured before our next PL match, against Leicester.
