Young Eddie gets a lot of stick from certain Arsenal fans, but hopefully even they will applaud his achievement of becoming the all time top goalscorer for the England under 21s.
Last night he scored a great goal to end what was beginning to become a frustrating chase for the record - including a penalty miss just minutes before his 88th minute winner, plus two goals ruled out for offside.
Eddie now has 14 goals in just 12 caps, and has surpassed the great Alan Shearer (13 goals in 11 appearances) and former Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers (13 in 16).
This isn't an article predicting Eddie's future, nor a comment on his quality. It is just a celebration of him achieving a great feat.

First 100+ article on the Arsenal thread (non-multiboard) since the last match thread.

Sad reflection that the bulk of it is a pair of clowns hating on a kid just because he's beat Shearer's record. Wondering if they just don't like the fact that despite him being English, the surname surpassing Shearer's is one which clearly belongs to black kid. How dare we even suggest someone with a name like that has a chance to be as good or sheer sacrolidge, may be an even better English striker than the mwhitey alan shearer

the only thing thats certain is that youre obsessed with race

Seriously, that is FAR from being the only thing WB2 is obsessed with

Isn’t Bats black?

No idea, just throwing the idea out there. There's likely other theories as to why a club fan would want to be unjustifiably hating on a youth prospect, on a thread where people originally just wanted to give the kid a "Well done. Good luck in future." I just picked the worst one because they annoyed me hating on him when he's actually doing quite well.
The way they're talking, anyone would think he's been playing in a team that was creating loads of chances for him to miss. I don't know the numbers but I'm going to guess he hasn't. After all, the team can barely create any, which does make it kinda difficult for any No 9. Our being week at AMF causing low chance creation overall, during Eddie's games. Is something they don't seem to have taken into account at all. Kind of important piece of info to consider if judging his ability to score goals.

No what's certain is that you don't know how to use punctuation nor do you actually understand the meaning/correct use of the word obsessed.

For U21’s Nketiah is good, but he is simply not good enough to warrant a place in the Arsenal first team.

I think he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt up until we have a respectable level of chance creation. Why people are expecting any striker playing that role to be scoring many goals. In a team which is struggling to create chances, I dunno. I mean where exactly was he supposed to get all these goals you're demanding when we're only getting less than 5 chances on goal, among the whole team, per game. Expecting him to have 10 goals in 25 games or something, with that poor level of service, is just plain unreasonable, bordering on ludicrous.
I'm not sure how many clear chances on goal Eddie's had in his 25 games. But given the dire state of our MF the last 2 years, I doubt it's that many. In fact I even wonder if he's gotten 25 chances to score, from those 25 appearances.

In PL, with 8 starts and 9 substitutions, he's had 17 shots, 7 on target and scored 3 goals. At 21, lacking physical development and much of the strength he will have soon enough, I don't think that's bad. Just for an interesting point though. So far this PL season 2 shots, both on target, one goal. So ya might just wanna ease off on the,
"For U21’s Nketiah is good, but he is simply not good enough to warrant a place in the Arsenal first team."
because if hew keeps on at that rate, you'll look a right pillock at the end of the season for saying that. Personally, I reckon we'll definitely get 10 out of him by season's end, 15 if we're lucky. Which is a more than respectable total for a 21 yr old in his first full season of senior football. And it's more than enough to make anyone saying he's not good enough to warrant his place, look really stupid for doing so.

He’s not good enough to warrant his playing time
Maybe he will be in the future but certainly not now
If that makes me a hater then I guess I’m a hater

He should have a similar roll in the squad to Willock. Instead his roll is similar to a once club record signing

Tbh I'm beginning to wonder if you understand how a team squad works. All this banging on about warranting gametime. As though the gametime he's being given is a reflection of his ability. He's isn't being played because he's considered good enough to fulfil the starting role ahead of Laca or Auba. Or even because he's expected to be half as effective. He's getting so much gametime because of our chosen systems of playing.
He's "good enough" to be the 3rd choice striker at most if not any PL club. And as the 3rd choice, all gametime he gets when replacing Laca or Auba, is "warranted," by neither Laca or Auba playing. That's the qualifier, not his skill level. The issue here is the systems we're using, not the ability of the youngster we're using a lot because of them. You'd barely have seen him much at all if Auba didn't play on the wing so much. Point you've really not paid any attention to at all whilst slating the kid. And yes, it does make you a hater because the kid is actually doing WELL. Not that you noticed.
