Adrian or Karius?

Just saw James Pearse tweet an article on Adrian being in the spotlight now with Ali injured, big Derby game etc. Was scrolling through the replies and saw some shouts that Karius is a better keeper.

What do you think? Both have made mistakes costing us goals, none bigger than Karius in the CL final but it gets forgotten that he was number one for a good chunk of that season and if I'm right, despite the calamity in the final, he won the CL golden glove that season.

Who you think is better? Lesser of two evils I guess

Karius is an average goalkeeper who takes an absolute pounding for conceding 2 howlers in the biggest club game in football. The reality is he would probably be just about right for a backup level keeper.

Adrian is just a really poor keeper. Every game he plays o fear he will cost us and reality is (as somoene) has pointed out its not far off that. A mistake every 4 games on average.

Out the 2 id have karius. Ive said it before bt for me id have tried to get reina back when he left villa last year. Far better than them 2 and a great character to have in the dressing room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Karius made many more clangers than those two.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He did, as do all keepers, allison included. He also conceded only 14 goals in 19 games in the premier league in his last season which isnt a bad return at all.

Im not saying hes a good goalie. Hes average at best but even he is a big upgrade on adrian who correct me if im wrong but prior to us signing him, was without a club and training with a 4th tier spanish side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thing is I watched him pre season after the CL final. It was against Waterlooville or summat and from the 1st minute the few hundred fans were on his back and within minutes he'd made as mistake. Adrian is going the same way, Karius is done at Liverpool. It's untenable.

I look at Wayne Hennessey, Palace's back up, who whenever I see play for Wales looks solid and would Der why he's not our back up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same for the Ireland keeper Darren Randolph, back up at West ham but he's been brilliant for Ireland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I do think you got to have minerals to play international footy, especially in goal. I'd certainly have Mig as a back up.

Have to say I disagree. Karius was awful long before that fateful CL game. He should never have replaced Mignolet, who'd actually started the season in good form. He continued to make mistakes throughout the season and quoting goals conceded doesn't tell the story in regards to what actually occurred. He made numerous errors, some leading to goals, others that just made your heart sink, everytime the ball went near him. The punch out to Spurs'(I think it was Spurs) attacker, which was a perfect assist, the one that I remember most.

Regardless, he then went to play in Turkey and has made numerous blunders for Besiktas. He's just error prone. There's no changing that. He's done at the top level, unless he can discover an unimaginable mental breakthrough.

adrian has had 3 clean sheets in 18 apps apparently, inthe same amount karius had 10 and a worse defence

though really neither are reliable

Id agree with you on the mignolet call, Karius should never have got in in front of him. Still a straight choice between karius or adrian im taking karius. Id rather neither and we had someone else altogether though.

What? It was reported? By who? Stevie Wonder? He made five mistakes leading to goals in his last 45 games and that's only the ones that lead to goals. He made numerous other blunders that weren't punished. In fact I remember he started a feud with Gary Neville who had been talking about his errors, which was long before the dreadful errors in the CL final.

The two errors in that final were the only errors that led to goals that Karius had made that entire season.
